How would you spend these last 2 points?

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing

Is a 2-point bid worth just to give Wedge a chance or is that too small to matter in the hyperspace meta? Couple Crack shots? Tactical scrambler?

Maybe Predator on Wedge.

I feel even baby bids can be helpful, since a lot of folks say "forget bids, I'm going to 200 for more stuff."

Personally, I'd cut R3, go Predator Wedge, Crack Shot Thane (Predator Thane?), but that's a "how I take my coffee" suggestion, black vs cream vs milk and sugar, and it doesn't really make a difference.

I would always spend my last two bucks on crack

I’ve had quite a few games where Wedge lives to the end and I’m worried that giving him any more points will solidify his target priority.

Plus if I put crack on Thane and Arvel it doesn’t change their half-point total.

Heff already has Intimidation, tho.

I get it though with Wedge. Any differences are pretty much splitting hairs, just my preferences, etc.

Crack Shot on Thane isn't a bad idea. If using his ability, you're likely to be trying to punch through your target's defences with a less-than-complete red die roll; crack shot helps a lot with that.

If you don't want to bulk out Wedge any more, then the last point could put Crack Shot on Arvel Crynyd (he does have two talent slots). With intimidation and crack shot, if you manage to block someone you can reliably hit just about anything, even with an A-wing's popguns, and someone who's crashed into your front is pretty reliably going to be in your bullseye.

2 cracks or a predator. Either case, the 2nd talent on Arvel seems good.

Source: I bid either 9+ pts. or don't bother bidding.

A bid is still good, even if you don't gain initiative from it. A 6 point bid, while not particularly usefull in bidding war, can still turn a 3 point lost game into a won game! (Saying this because I saw some real close game this weekend at a local tournament. I think at least 2 we're won by a 2-3 point margin, where a bid might have brought a difference.)

I don't like Zeb crew because it opens you up to get shot at R0. I DO like Tactical Scrambler on Heff.

I don't like R3 on Thane since you aren't carrying ordnance. I DO like using the points to get Crackshot on both Thane and Arvel.

And DO keep the bid. It comes in surprisingly helpful even though it's just a baby bid.

Good luck!

Without Zeb they always burn down Wedge in the first exchange. Plus you need 4 guns on the same intimidated target to guarantee the kill.

I’ve actually just been sitting on the list waiting for Zeb to be in Hyperspace.

Predator on Arvyl, rng 0 should be guaranteed bullseye.

I wouldn't spend the points, but just as much for Heff's and Arvel's sake as for Wedge's. You might get Intimidation either way, but there's a big difference between blocking the opposing i2 and being blocked by the opposing i2.

Take R3 off Thayne and give Wedge Swarm tactics.

Given the number of times my Heff has been initiative-killed I should have already thought about this.

Add R-4 to Thane instead of R-3 and add R-4 to Wedge open up the blues baby. Get Thane on Crack and he is back at 48pts. Get Wedge on Crack also and he is 58 pts. all the rest the same and you have your 200 pts, with even numbers on Wedge and Thane.

The other route is lose the R-3 mech and get Wedge, Thane and Arvel hooked on Crack, It's worth it and leaves a one point bid.
