My wife and I plan on getting into Legion soon. However, with the new core set coming out, presents a problem. I want to play the Imperials, my wife wants to play the separatists. We would LOVE to get all the factions, we just don't have the time nor the money for that. So buying both core sets, is kind of a waste. Does anyone know if there are any plans for single faction core sets? Right now, my plan is to attempt selling our unused factions on ebay. Is that the only way? Side note, I'm assuming there's no reason you can't play the prequel factions vs the original right?

So, two cores, one original and clone wars. I always try to split cores with like minded folks, so you double up on your 'essential ' units, so if you and your spouse can line that up. That's ideal, if not flip the.sides you don't want on your favorite auction site.

Also, no problem playing different eras against each other. The imperial have more growing room because they have more expansions currently.

Should be fairly easy to find someone locally at your FLGS to split the core set of Clone Wars, you take the Droids and they take the Clones. Might be tougher to find someone to split the original core set. Might get lucky and find someone locally selling their Empire squad though.

So, the core set isn't actually a bad value even if you don't use both factions. 3 units + character is about $87 by itself, then you get dice, measuring tools, generic command cards, etc (all things you'd have to acquire separately if you didn't get cores). If you can offload the second half, all the better, but you're not hurting even if you don't.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Two core sets (so 4 total in your case), is still cheaper than buying everything separately at this point in time. Then, you can either sell what you don't want online (or try to split), or hold onto them in case in the future you want to expand into other factions. Regardless, the value, even for 1 faction, you get our of a core set cannot be understated.

Are there any local game stores nearby that would have people interested in doing trades?

It might not hurt to check Ebay for people already selling say the Empire half of a core set. Same can he said for CIS once that releases.

Also as stated, the Core sets still come with some great value even if you only want one faction from it. Could try to sell or the factions you don't want or offer them up to the paint gods as practice figures to try out painting.

In the future there might be a faction bundle that will have a couple of stuff grouped together, nothing has been announced or teased so if this happens it won't be for a while.

And no, nothing wrong with eras clashing against each other. I am looking forward to showing Stormies how superior Clones are.

You can also check on your local area’s FaceBook Star Wars Legion pages. You might find someone to split sets with or at least unload the extra bits you don’t want.

There is a game store near, however when I was there for magic, they were against any trading on store grounds.

I had that happen to me. I messaged someone on FB and we were all set for me to sell off some stuff, but the store owner was in the same FB group. He read me the riot act.

But there is a simple answer. You can meet at a store, then walk to your car and make your deal. That’s what I ended up doing.😁

Don't blame the store owner though, there are a lot of legal issues if you sell in his store.

There are no legal issues. He just feels like you're taking away from his business, which you kind of are (just like any secondary market).

Here's the thing, it's about value, not price. The less money you have, the more it makes sense to buy 4 cores (2 per time period). Whether you save the extra factions for a rainy day (which is what I heartily recommend) or sell the extra factions on eBay, 4 cores is going to be your best way to start.

If/when your games settle into a stale repetitive state, where you feel like the only way to keep things fresh is to constantly spend money on the latest units... why, just pull a new faction out of the closet and paint it up!

Core set starter factions are about $83 worth of minis (per faction, that's $166 per box!), you'll be lucky to get half of that on eBay for them. Maybe agree on a 3rd faction that you are both interested in and keep it to mix up your games down the road, and sell off the 4th. If you both really hate one of the extra factions for some reason, is the only reason I'd sell it. Although spare core commanders DO sell well on eBay, you can get around $15 for them, ie, enough to buy a new commander or operative.

For what core sets contain, and what expansions cost, keeping all your stuff from multiple core sets is the best option for the budget minded gamer. A small selection of $12 heroes will keep an army made of nothing but 2 core sets feeling fun and new for a very long time and give you all the points you need.

Someday there will be some Rebel or Clone thing you just HAVE to have, and then you've got an army to plug it into!

That's a tough one as two core sets is just such good value for money but I can understand not wanting to get all 4 factions. As others have said, the only real option is find someone else looking to buy into the game and split the units.

If it were me, I'd just bite the bullet, buy four core sets and build out your two armies. It might feel a waste to have 50% of the units in each set unused initially, but you could always use them as proxy units to reach 6 core units in your armies (just need to use a bag for the order tokens as you'd have a mixture of backgrounds). You also then retain the option to buy just enough extra expansions (won't need many) for the rebels/republic to give yourself a lot of variety in playing. Enough to do a team game too should you manage to rope another two people in or fancy a huge battle where you both control two armies (rules in back of RRG).

Hmmm thanks for all the suggestions! Atm I'm thinking of getting one of each core set, for the time being. Using the clones as storm troopers in my Imperial army. We would still need to get more droids for my wife. So MAYBE we'll get 2 clone wars core set. I suppose we could just use the rebels from the other core set in the droid army? XD would look kinda odd but could do it.

I guess you could pass off a DC15 Clone Trooper as a Stormtrooper with a DLT, but the Rebels are going to be a bit more difficult, especially considering how they don't come with enough models for a droid unit. Is there some reason you don't want to just sell the extra stuff and use it finance more stuff you actually want?

Since Clone Wars are delayed, you could always start practicing the game mechanics with two GCW armies and add CW later. Not that they're delayed by a ton, but still. It's a thought.

If you can hold off till Black Friday you can build your armies at half the cost. The Original Core set was $46 last year and most the expansions were 50% off.

This is actually a good point. One core now, proxy with poker chips till Black Friday, then buy 3 more assorted cores and also buy ALL THE THINGS.

Also, keep an eye on amazon during this.

They missed the delivery deadline for my order, refunded it and replaced it for free then let me keep the original when it finally came. Heck of a deal lol.

That said I went on miniatures market during their black Friday deal and bought

3x rebel troopers
2x AT-RTs
1x T-47
1x Han
1x Leia
3x Rebel commandos
3x Fleet troopers for only $152 bucks

Black Friday is a great idea ! I hadn't even thought about that! Well honestly we were going to get the clone war set when it comes out, just to start painting, the plan was to wait to get anything else till around Christmas. However, now if I can find good deals around black Friday, that's when we'll get the rest of the stuff!

Originally, my plan was to trade or sell the things we don't use. However, part of me wants to keep the clone army. The potential Jedi coming out for them has me extremely interested. However, seeing no Jedi other than Obi has been announced, this is probably way down the road. So the idea to keep the clones, and use them as storm troopers was suggested by someone in my discord. The rebel thing was just a side thought, honestly not really loving the idea, probably wouldn't do it. I feel like finding anyone to trade or sell rebels too at this point would be difficult, just due to the fact most people interested in rebels probably don't need more of them.

Adding an endorsement for Black Friday. Being only a few months out, the savings seems worth the wait.

The only reason I didn’t buy so much this past year was I already had what I needed and couldn’t quite justify it (I still snagged some speeder bikes in the end).

This year? More likely to drop some BF money... I’ve bought just one “new” release that came out after the specialist packs in January. I’ve got all this years stuff to sift through at cheaper prices (hopefully). Come on mini market/amazon, ScummyRebel needs himself a landspeeder for cheap! (And some rebel veterans.... and maybe some other good stuff).

Shame about the clone wars stuff release timetable is none of it will likely be Black Friday eligible. Wouldn’t mind scooping up more goodies for them.

I’ve got enough core set units, personally, since I’ve got an Imperial-favoring friend that I split stuff with, but I’ve only just been buying into the game the past several months. I’m sure if you put it up on ebay for a reasonable price, you can make something back off of it.

Right, not saying it isn’t possible, just feel like it would either take a while, or I won’t get much for them.

Anyways, I had an idea. We get a clone core set on release, at Black Friday if the clone core is on sale we pick up one of those, and one imperial core set. This way it rounds out my wife’s army. And I can just use the extra clones for storm troopers AND we’d have a clone army to boot! I doubt anyone I play the game with will care I have clone troopers in my imperial army. Maybe the next Black Friday I’ll pick up actual storm troopers. I honestly think this is the best way for me to go. Does anyone have a reason not to do this?

Sounds good to me, although if the Black Friday deals are as good as they were last year you may be able to sneak in a stormie or two on this years order.

Or wait. I don’t see a downside to using clones for stormies in a casual game. The only caveat is the order tokens will have different backs (republic vs empire) so for any that are not assigned face up you need to use a bag to randomize the ones you pick from because otherwise you can see some of the corps units are corps units without looking at the icon. Order control is a big part of the game (lower priority higher control vs higher priority more randomness/less control) so you don’t want to cheat unintentionally.

I just use a dice bag for my order tokens that need to be random, even if they all have the same backs. Just easier than shuffle stacks etc
