Flotillas

By JJ48, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Last game I played, I was told that if the only ships I had in play were Flotillas, then the game was over, just as if I had only Squadrons. Does anyone know where this is in the rules or FAQ, because I can't seem to find it.

Thanks in advance.

It's in the tournament regulations.

Thanks. Being a casual player, it hadn't even occurred to me to check under "Tournament Resources".

On a side note, I can't help but be a little disappointed at the way Rules are handled overall. The Rules Reference doesn't appear to have been updated as new material came out, and the FAQ isn't necessarily laid out for efficiently looking up a rule, and seems more geared towards clarifications and erratas than being a comprehensive rules document, anyway (for instance, if you don't remember what a Contain token does, you'd best hope you saved the insert from the expansion). It does sound like they're starting to put a bit more emphasis on Armada coming up, so hopefully they'll take the opportunity to update the Rules Reference or otherwise give us more useful resources.

Agreed, it's a really terrible rules collection for such a great game. In addition, the phrasing of the cards is not often clear and sometimes misleading or even plain wrong. (Will they ever update the cards on reprints?)

When they give us fancy faction specific damage decks like XWing they should combine with a revised, smaller format reference rulebook with a faction specific cover design.

I agree, and hope so.

I think they said they will not be updating physical card errata on reprints.

It's possible we will get an updated , reprinted rule book and RR inside the Armada: Clone Wars starter set, but that will be sometime in late 2020.

Also want to mention, if you didn't agree to play a game under tournament rules your opponent was technically wrong. The flotilla tableing rule is not part of the default rules.

Really strange that there are two formats (default and tournament) that are basically almost completely identical but are still distinct formats. I really think they should not have made that distinction. Especially since many players wouldn't even know there is another format when they start playing. It just seems like a beginners trap. The flotilla tableing rule should have just been part of the normal game.

You see, as I see it, that's entirely the *reason* why they didn't add it to the Core Rules, essentially.

At the time when they were added and sorted, casual game rules were essentially represented by what was in the Box, What was in the RRG, and What was in the suppliments that came with the expansions .

So that you could play casual games "correctly" and "well enough" without referring to anything online at all.

The Core (Casual) rules already had established different rules on Tabling - with it being immediate and all that. This way, Flotillas are just ships like anything else, but when you lose all your ships, you're out immediately ... No Squadron Push.

It should also be noted that until recently, even the errata was listed as TOURNAMENT ERRATA , and itself wasn't even immedately considered for Tournament Play. So none of the listed changes applied - you played directly with what was on cards, and in your expansions... nothing else .
