Upgrading checks question

By bblaney001, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ok, say I am being targeted by a melee attack that has difficulty 2, and I have a 2 melee defense.

If I have Dodge 2, AND have activated the Sense ability that upgrades checks against me, by 2, how would that work out?

Simple you upgrade the first two Difficulty dice to red then add another Difficulty die and upgrade that to red as well giving you three Challenge dice.

To quote the AoR Core Rules:

Quote

UPGRADING MORE DICE THAN AVAILABLE
Sometimes a player may need to upgrade Ability dice into Proficiency dice but have no more Ability dice left in the pool. In this case, the player performs the following steps. First, he determines how many dice upgrades remain. Then, using one upgrade, he adds one additional Ability die to the pool. If any upgrade opportunities remain, he then upgrades the newly added Ability die into a Proficiency die. This process is repeated until all potential upgrades have been applied. Likewise, if a player needs to upgrade Difficulty dice into Challenge dice but there are no more Difficulty dice remaining, the same process is followed. First, one additional Difficulty die is added; then if any more upgrades remain, the Difficulty die is upgraded into a Challenge die, and so on.

Hope that helps.

As noted, 3 challenge dice. But don't forget the two setback :)

In general, at least in the printed material, if the term "Upgrade/Downgrade Difficulty" is used, then it means you change the dice type in question, going up or down respectively. The number of dice isn't altered, just the type of dice being rolled. If it says "Increase/Decrease" then you are actually adding or removing dice from the equation.

That’s inaccurate, as @Tramp Graphics posted above. If you run out of dice to upgrade, then you add another die. But downgrading only changes the die type, but won’t remove and dice.
