Stats for DH-17 Blaster Rifle

By Zeiaxar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I'm looking for help to stat the DH-17 Blaster Rifle first introduced into Rogue One, at the very least, via concept art, even if they didn't make them into film until TLJ.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DH-17 Blaster Carbine was in Forged in Battle.

That's not the carbine.

Okay, I looked into it more and realized that you are right, it looks the same as the pistol. I thought that in FiB it was described as having a stock but I was wrong.
I would suggest just stating it like a normal blaster rifle, cuz not everything needs specific stats, and there doesn't seem to be anything special about it.

So the main question to ask is "what sets this rifle apart from the standard blaster rifle to such an extent that special stats are needed for it?"

This is probably just another variation on the standard blaster rifle stated in the core rulebooks, with no special bells or whistles.

Didn't we already cover this in another thread? I recall talking at length over the difference between the pistol, carbine, short carbine, and rifle...

YOu did?

Did you resolve it? Otherwise I would be interested in that discussion

I think, and I just going from memory here so maybe I don't remember totally correctly. But I think that the end result was we determined that the weapon used in Rogue one was the carbine and the weapon featured in Star Wars galaxies was the short carbine with the weapon featured in a New Hope being the pistol. I also vaguely recall there was a larger version of the weapon that featured a black barrel with a heavier barrel shroud or whatever you want to call it that we determined to be the rifle.

That said, I don't think we discussed if there was any necessity for any new stats outside of the DH-17 line that's already been represented in the game.

Personally, I don't think there is. I think representing it is just another blaster rifle using the generic stat block is probably acceptable. After all, at a certain point we just end up with the weapons book from d20 modern where you had hundreds and hundreds of guns with stats that were all virtually identical, resulting in a book that was largely just a bunch of fluff about each weapon and really not something that really contributed anything new to the game.

Well, the core of the problem is the over-use of the Sterling SMG for Star-Wars weapons in general.

The DH-17 is built by using the Sterling SMG, and it's very obvious that it is.
BUT, so is the E-11.
And so is the DH-17 carbine/rifle
And the E-11D
And the E-22
And the DT-15
And I'm sure there are more, but I'm not gonna go into more detail.

Point is, many of these are built by different companies, so god knows if the weapon pictured in the first image is a DH-17 carbine, rifle or just a DH-17 pistol that someone put a buttstock on to help the tiny guy shoot it...

I've decided, in my current game, that all there is is basic bland non-descript "blasters" of various forms. The ONLY time anyone gets anything that's different in stats and actually has a model designation is when either they're specifically looking to buy one somewhere, or if they run into a big boss that I want to give some flourish to.

It's made my life a lot easier as a GM to just ignore most of the weapons that have been added over the years.
