"Fluffy" Themed Builds

By player4203308, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi Everyone

I was keen to gather people's thoughts on fluffy lists?

Reason being is I feel I got abit lucky the other week with the below list and was curious how other people have fairesld trying to do more themed lists for their Armada games.

Do they tend to work or just fumble

This list I went with was

++ Standard (Imperial Navy) [399pts]

Commander: Grand Admiral Thrawn

Arquitens-class Command Cruiser [59pts][/b]

Gozanti-class Cruisers [31pts]:[/b] Bomber Command Center

Imperial Star Destroyer Cymoon 1 Refit [160pts]: Gunnery Team, Grand Admiral Thrawn . Spinal Armament

+ Raider I-class Corvette [44pts][/b]

+ Squadrons +

TIEBomber [36pts]:

4x TIE Bomber Squadron

TIE Defender [69pts]:[/b]

3 x TIE Defender Squadron,

•Maarek Stele

Objectives

Assault Objective: Advanced Gunnery

Defense Objective: Capture the VIP

Navigation Objective: Dangerous Territory

++ Total: [399pts] ++

Basically Thrawn trying out his Tie Defender project.

I had the bid as he used his full 400 pts. And went with Advanced Gunnary objective.

Was an intense game (was against an Akbar Build with Home one) but didn't loose a single ship whereas tabled my opponent.

(Admittedly he hadnt played for a few months so think he was Abit rusty). But the list seemed to perform well, just didn't expect so well.

Has anyone else tried more themed lists and had success.

Also, on a seperate and side note, what are people's thoughts on the defenders?

Only used them one and loved them, but that might just be first game high haha.

Not tried, but this could be the Rebel list for the battle of Scarif:

Rebels Scarif (82/389/400)
===================
MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100 + 33: 133)
+ Admiral Raddus (26)
+ Profundity (7)
Nebulon-B Escort Frigate (57)
CR90 Corvette B (39 + 6: 45)
+ Leia Organa (3)
+ Tantive IV (3)
Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
Hera Syndulla (28)
Dutch Vander (16)
2 x X-wing Squadron (2 x 13)
Gold Squadron (12)

And here the Imperial Side. There are just not enough points in a 400 Pointer game. There should be way more Ties.

Imperial Scarif (23/399/400)
============================
Imperial I-class Star Destroyer (110 + 46: 156)
+ Darth Vader (36)
+ Devastator (10)
Imperial I-class Star Destroyer (110)
Imperial I-class Star Destroyer (110)
Lambda-class Shuttle (15)
Tie Fighter Squadron (8)

I'm not sure where it went but I started building, name WIP, Dust Sector Command. Which was going to be premade ships and squadrons to pull fleets from. Each with a backstory and 'rasons' for the upgrade/squadrons paired together. I canned the project when each unit was about 150pts.

For example the VSD Warlord's Regret:

Victory I-Class Star Destroyer (73 points)
- Warlord ( 8 points)
- Ruthless Strategists ( 4 points)
- Reserve Hangar Deck ( 3 points)
- H9 Turbolasers ( 8 points)
- Ordnance Pods ( 3 points)
= 99 total ship cost

2 YV-666s ( 30 points)
3 TIE Fighter Squadrons ( 24 points)
1 Lambda-class Shuttle ( 15 points)
= 69 total squadron cost

Total cost 168

This ancient Victory I has gone through so many recomissionings and refits that no one in the sector remembers it's offical name. Everyone instead calls it Warlord's Regret. It earned this name when it single handedly destroyed a local warloard and his entire fleet. This warloard had openly boasted about how his ace pilots and crew could best any ship in the sector. The few pilots recovered after the carange still flinch at the sight of a star destroyer.

Warloard's Regret's own pilots didn't fair much better in the engagement. The whole Tie Bomber wing was destroyed, mostly by friendly fire, and the sole Lambda that survived also had signs of friendly fire. This unfortunate outcome came from the flack gunners being guided onto target by data from the pilots. To prevent any more friendly fire casualties two YT-666 replaced the bomber wing entirely. After reciving modifications to facilitate better flack coordination they were brought into service. With it's reputation far proceeding it most star fighters either comply or retreat when Warlord's Regret appears.

This is my favourite list at the moment. Nothing fluffier than a good old imperial blockade, and it has not lost a game! Didn't even make it for thematics just wanted to know if a VSD I was both usable and capable of running a blockade. Answer is yes to both!

I've been writing quite a few Tagge SSD lists, typically with Palp Officer on the SSD and Vader Officer "demoted" over onto a Gozanti in keeping with the Vader comics! It's not good (even on an SSD Tagge is mediocre at best), but it's not awful and is pretty thematic!

I’d swap Tagge and Konstantine. For the most part, Tagge will do something that isn’t great. Konstantine will probably just not do jack ****

Not sure if its themed, but I made this list with a simple plan of getting in close, quickly (I called it "Up Close & Personal").

It's worked pretty well. Played 7 times, lost 2 twice (once, due to me trying to be clever (never a good thing! lol) and not following the idea of what to do with the list in the first place. The second narrowly to probably my clubs best Armada player who was using his tournament list - That may have been due to my target selection as much as anything. During the after game chat, he said in my position he would have chosen different ships to shot at. When I told him my thought process, he agreed there were difficult choices, with no really wrong answer).

The losses were the last two games I played with it.

Its fairly obvious what I want to do with the list, and in the first 5 games, my opponents all went slowly, thinking to keep the distance open as long as possible. Counter intuitively, going faster is the better option because at a slow speed the opposing ships stay close to me and all my lovely black dice for longer. At a faster speed, I'll get one shot max before they are gone.

The wins were against varying lists, both with and without squadrons.

The losses were against the Rebel Admiral that keeps ships alive after destruction until the end of the turn (Riekaan?). While the second was against the Rebel Admiral that can teleport in a ship and then drop another one (Raddus?).

ISD Kuat, Screed, Strategic Advisor, Ord. Experts, ECM, Leading Shots, ACM/APT

GSD 1, Intel Officer, Ord. Experts, Engine Techs, ACM/APT, Demolisher

GSD 1, Intel Officer, Ord. Experts, Engine Techs, ACM/APT, Insidious

Gozanti, Comms Net

Gozanti, Comms Net

With ACM, the list comes in at 391. With APTs, knock off 4 points to give yourself a bigger bid, or get an extra upgrade. Maybe Avenger of the ISD?

I kind of did the same thing with my rebels, mainly just the squadrons. I have 4 x-wing bases 3 regular and then have them each led by an ace. I try to run the squadrons together as much as possible

Also I named all of my Imperial ships just for fun :)

Imperial I-class Star Destroyer (110)
Imperial I-class Star Destroyer (110)
Lambda-class Shuttle (15)
Tie Fighter Squadron (8)

I think it's ok to exclude the Devastator since the battle was mainly the rabble fleet vs the two ISDs and squads, and Vader only jumped in when the rabble were preparing to jump out(i.e. round 6) and thus more like a special scenario than the full fleet (but whatevs, it's all from a certain point of view :) )

anyways, here's my imp theme list:

R1(imp fleet) (104/400/400)
==========================
Cymoon 1 Refit (112 + 48: 160)
+ Admiral Sloane (24)
+ Gunnery Team (7)
+ Intensify Firepower! (6)
+ XI7 Turbolasers (6)
+ Quad Battery Turrets (5)
Cymoon 1 Refit (112 + 24: 136)
+ Gunnery Team (7)
+ Shields to Maximum! (6)
+ XI7 Turbolasers (6)
+ Quad Battery Turrets (5)
13 x Tie Fighter Squadron (13 x 8 )
Station Assault
Contested Outpost
Solar Corona

And rabble hh should have Garel's Honor. That should've been the Lightbringer except ffg din know the name of it before making it. :D

Well loving some of these lists and they seem effective.

Cheers for all of the replies aswell and especially loving that Scariff list build.
