So, you know.
Cloud cars, T-16s, T-47s, all viable.
Reminder: Nobody ever ever said XWMG was space only.
From FFG’s product page:
” In X-Wing Second Edition , you assemble a squadron of iconic starfighters from across the Star Wars saga and engage in fast-paced, high-stakes space combat with iconic pilots such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader.”
Emphasis mine.
Asteroids, gas clouds, and stationary debris looks real bad in atmospheric missions/maps.
If they ever introduce atmospheric combat, I hope they add new, thematic obstacles like, I don't know, mountain peaks, storms, and... flying creatures?

Gas clouds just mean you’re standing too close to the business end of a bantha.

Squadron = 12. *red buzzer noise*
Fast-paced = 1+ hours?? *red buzzer noise*
High-stakes = gambling for wads of cash or risk of death *red buzzer noise*
Iconic Pilots = well, sometimes it's some guy named "Null" *red buzzer noise*
So, maybe atmo could be a thing??
Interestingly, TFA features almost ALL atmo starfighter combat. . .
(BTW, just giving you guff, SR)
Edited by Darth MeanieI mean you could just take the X-wing ruleset and throw in speeders and say hey you are in atmosphere, but I don't know what you would do with obstacles besides clouds. You cannot have ground obstacles without including some sort of altitude component to it. I mean you could, but you would just have to pretend everyone is flying arbitrarily low for no good reason. That would just feel kind of cheap to me.

Actually if you’ve watched Rebels then floating rocks in an atmosphere aren’t too crazy.

Isn't the business end the front, with those massive curled horns? That would make the other end the par-...you know what, I'm going to stop right there.

Oh no worries at all. It’s all in good fun.
I was being a bit cheeky by copy/paste the description from FFG.
I think adapting the ruleset to atmo could be fun, but then we would need new obstacles for sure, and I’d want to see how we handle overlaps with ground based minis (AT-ATs) with ships that could fly over (anything in the game now) but physically on a flat surface like the game mat.

You mean a new, new way to play X-Wing??
I'm in!!

Yeah, that would be stupid.
Let's just pretend that there are asteroids EVERYWHERE in the vastness of space.
Ah, that's better.

Looking for the word “only” in there...

Asteroids = mountain peaks
gas clouds = well, storm clouds
debris = treetops on mountains not quite tall enough to count as asteroids

Keep your atmosphere out of my space!

Well. WE didn't really see any atmo combat in ANH, saw a little in ESB, none in ROTJ, can't remember any in PM, i remember some from ATOC (when they raided the genosian planet). And we've seen quite a bit in the new films.. So there's plenty of resource material to pull from.

Photos I could find of folks "gettin' it done":
@heychadwick , didn't you have a pretty sweet Beggar's Canyon setup for Mario Kart??

I'm sure we'll get the LAAT in space config at some point, if that's what you're hoping for.

I'd HOPE it'd have a Space Config...
Atmospheric Configuration" - remove any crew cards equipped to this ship. They're dead now... they're dead. You killed them. Idiot.

Yes, Dave. They’re dead, Dave. They’re all dead Dave.

Well....kind of. We have used 40k terrain to do a few Beggar's Canyon maps of flying in the desert around a bunch of rocks. It was a 4 person grab the loot and flee type mission (with rules to make it interesting). We have also done some Mario Kart. Dang....let me see if I can find some pictures...

There was also that Tie Punisher mission where 4 fully loaded Tie Punishers and a Gozanti with escorts had to blow up a pirate base.
I can’t wait to run 8 Ewok gliders and absolutely destroy some tie fighters.

<Redone scene from The Empire Strikes Back>
Leia: You're not actually flying into an asteroid field?!
Han: <stares blankly at her for a good ten seconds> It's space. The entire place is nothing but asteroid fields.
