However, RotS has something similar in the opening scenes. During Obi-Wan and Anakin's escape from the Invisible Hand (with Palpatine in tow), they are trapped by the ray shields in a corridor. Maybe they could have got out of it by themselves, maybe they were worried about harm coming to Palpatine while doing so, but instead they waited for R2 to catch up with them and deactivate the shield from the outside.

If I understand you, are you saying you like it to be very hidden and not purposeful, not a weapon aimed by someone but more of an effect? I like that better than most usages I have seen.

From what I remember of that particular scene, it seemed more like a trap for anyone, including possibly Force users. A security measure, if you like. But it seemed to be just the one, not a lot of them scattered all over the ship's hallways.

It also seemed very ... "let's just put a scene with a ray shield in here". It didn't seem to serve any particular purpose, unless it was to underline that the Separatists might have had certain contingency measures in place. (And that it's useful to have slicer astromech along.)

I don't know about that ray shield on the ship but I was just asking if you felt Force Suppression was something meta and not a power the PCs are aware of an turning on purposely.

Hmmm. Considering that - at least according to Legends canon - there have been Force users in the galaxy for something like 25,000 years, it's likely that some form of technological counter-measures have been invented. Drugs or some external forces (like the energy containment field) that make it difficult to concentrate in order to use the Force. What I really didn't get were the ray shields and how they worked on Force users. Couldn't a powerhouse Move-user like Anakin just destroy/rip the relevant machinery out of the wall? (Or am I applying headcanon here?)

On the other hand, the Jedi and other parties might have severely discouraged non-Force users from inventing/using them. "Leave the policing of Force-users to the Jedi" sort of thing (particularly as they can use Force powers like Suppress on misbehaving Force-users). But even then the Jedi would probably have some form of tech-based Force suppression for keeping Forcer user prisoners in cells.

I agree that standard Imperial officers would have no idea of how to stop a Force user during the Galactic Civil War. They would call in the Inquisition - unless they were feeling particularly stubborn and "we can deal with it on our own!". But any research by said officers in how to stop a Force user would likely attract the attention of the Inquisition anyway unless the officers were exceedingly circumspect. (I'm pretty sure that the Inquisition keeps an eye on who looks up that sort of stuff on the holonet/databases.)

In general for before the Empire, I think that the general response would be (again) "Leave the policing of Force-users to the Jedi". Of course, there were a few bounty hunters who specialised in taking down Force users. Aurra Singh, IIRC, not to mention the Ragnar Syndicate.

There are force-inhibiting drugs in some of the FaD splat books, I believe.

But if you are in a position where you can relatively easily drug some Jedi, how much do you really need that Force suppression anyway?

Constant use of drugs might be a health-risk in the long run. Or lead to the drugs becoming less effective on a particular individual.

(Although depriving a Force user of access to the Force by other means could also have deleterious effects.)
