points changes not on cards?

And they've stated in a few interviews that the it upkeep for their IT support currently is more costly than anticipated and something they won't be repeating.

Their app was badly designed. The points/upgrades in online PDFs are excellent.

I don't disagree. I really don't get the rage over ffg choosing not to to junk umpteen dollars worth of stock in pipelines just so the numbers on a card change when they could feasibly change again by the time the new stock lands.

Ever heard of the term ‘corner case’? Cuz I haven’t heard of many tournaments being held in a backwoods cabin. :)

My overall take from this thread: There are a bunch of different self directed solutions to deploying this errata - pick one that works for you and go with it. All except the whinging one; that seems ineffective at the present time.

Not everyone playing the game is playing at a tournament. I've also played Legion in some areas with terrible internet. It's always nice to just be able to add up the points off the cards if push-comes-to-shove, even 90% of the time I'll use Battlescribe or TTA.

X-Wing does well without points on cards nor needing any type of printed rule with the players.

Except the cards are worthless without the app/points PDF, and that's happened in the last few months with their screwy releases. I'd rather not buy an expansion and it be worthless until FFG says I'm allowed to use it. Printed points costs also allow for units to be proxied in and tested based on their reveal article. Very niche, but handy.

There are a few things to consider here.

1. How much does it really cost to replace cards? Well, it costs rework hours and cost if you plan to repackage current stock. It depends on the company. Some will repackage everything to prevent waste while still selling for full price. Other companies will understand that it is cheaper in the long runto sell outdated stock at a discount (that still makes them some profit and presents better customer service and a caring about the customers because the customer is getting a deal.

2. Other options. One can be going full out pdf for everything with no confusion on costs, playtesting, using different costs between games. Most players are fully able to do it easily. It does become a hassle though and that is the sort of hassle that can make the eyes of many customers wander. Another option is to just release a card pack that includes all of the current cards with updated costs... but that leads to the same problem down the road. There is also the codex option but that would leave a bad taste in the mouths of many customers who came here from other companies. I fell the full pdf list with the optional card packs that are blannk of costs myself.

3.New customers. New players coming in.Theimage it gives to new customers where all is up in the air, this for one game, that for the next, what ones do I use when building a list to go to a new shop to play so Im not stuck with the wrong stuff or not enough.... This can turn many players away.

I know my preference but what would work best... Who knows. I figure let them try this and see how it goes. If it is a flop, just hope it isnt bad enough to put the line under and that they can come back with something that does.

Pure PDF is unlikely given FFG using the cards to enforce purchasing of their products, which is a choice they've made for all of their games. And to be honest, a PDF with the current points of the units with changed values IS available: it's the RRG. If you only want the page of changes, then "print to PDF" just that page (and the errata in my opinion) to make a smaller PDF with just those changes.

For those wanting new cards: this isn't a one time points change, this is the point changes for this year. Since we haven't had more than one change, we don't know how many of these changes are going to change again. Next year strike teams could go up by 5 points, or E-Stims could drop to 11 points. I'd rather production time was spent on new products rather than reprints of miscellaneous cards. Plus there's the problem of how many of each card to put in the pack, and it competes with the card pack due to be released soon. If the problem is just you want the points to build with just a calculator and the cards, either print out the chart and out it with your gaming stuff or mark the card sleeve with the new points.

As for the codex solution: GW has changed the points of units in a codex in errata before, without changing the points listed in subsequent printings of the codex. So it's basically the same as needing both the card and the chart for list building.

Every time you ask players to purchase new cards to keep up with your errata, you give them a chance to feel like they don't need to bother and give up on the game. :(
