PLEASE FFG - Text Size on Cards

By CaptainCrumpet, in The Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle-earth

Hi FFG

Im a 52 years old gamer who loves your games BUT it’s getting to the stage I can’t continue due to the size of text on your cards. I am struggling to read the main text and have to use a magnifying glass to read the text at the base of the cards. It’s giving me bad headaches and will sadly cause me to avoid any of your small card games, which is allot if them. I really want to enjoy this game and I’m pleading with you to make the text size bigger for some of your ageing audience.

i’m sure I’m not alone with this issue... and many if your players will also suffer this as they get closer to my age.

A fair point -- I'm in my 30s and also wish the text were a bit bigger!

In the meantime, it might be worth investing in a lighted magnifier on a stand. These tend to have a larger lens than a standard handheld magnifying glass. You might be able to set it up so that it will illuminate and magnify most of your character's cards all at the same time, which would be much more convenient and ergonomic.

For what it’s worth, while I understand your issue, I myself have no issue at all with the text size.

as I don’t suffer from eyesight issues, pardon my ignorance, but would getting prescription glasses solve the issue?

I have to agree with the OP, and I HAVE prescription glasses and the text is still very hard to read.

...bigger is better...

I purchased glasses with progressive lenses to use while gaming. I am now able to read cards without issue.

And then people will start complaining that there are too many big cards which could easily be small cards.

Can't please 'em all, I guess...

^^^This.

I'm 55 and struggle like some of the folks above. I use a magnifying glass (in addition to my glasses) and improved the lighting in my game room. Alas, getting old has it's challenges, but worth adapting to in order to play the game. I won't condemn the the cavalier comments, just good naturedly let them know that for many it is evitable, so be kind.

Maybe having a print on demand bigger size cards?

FFG has other print on demand options. Häving this would be easily done, because they allready have card plans. Just scale them bigger normal poker size

I think this would be an excellent solution! I'd be really curious to know if FFG has specific accessibility initiatives towards they're product lines, being able to include or introduce new players from the blind and deaf communities (not to mention countless others). I've often found that those sort of considerations towards inclusive design really does make things better, and that players of all stripes would stand to benefit from that.

I too struggle with this. Some of you "youngsters" worry that the app wont start one day, I worry that I wont be able to read the cards without "some kind of device".

Exactly

I like the idea of being able to order larger cards.
