Rebel Intimidation Block

By LeMightyASP, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey everyone!

I wanted to show you a build i've been tinkering with ever since i started playing X-wing 2.0

The build consists of combos that take advantage of intimidation and ion weaponry, and it was originally built around Horton Salm, which is my favorite pilot in the game.

Intimidation (3)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Leia Organa (6)
Pivot Wing (0)

Ship total: 55 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 4

Horton Salm (37)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Veteran Turret Gunner (8)

Ship total: 50 Half Points: 25 Threshold: 4

Norra Wexley (Y-Wing) (41)
Swarm Tactics (4)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
Ion Torpedoes (6)

Ship total: 56 Half Points: 28 Threshold: 4

For a quick rundown of how I fly the List: I setup so that Norra and Horton are side by side right behind Heff in a corner, so that if a ship would overlap one of the Y-wings, instead it bumps on th U-wing, with Norra on the inside, with the turret pointing towards the inside of the field and Horton is on outside, with the turrent in the front arc. Arvel is setup isolated on the other side.

Upgrades, Combos and Strategies:

The obvious focus here is on obtaining blocks. We mostly utilize the ion turrets and ion torpedos to accomplish this, aside from the usual prediction-based block. We try to force engagements at range 1 to get the most out of Horton's ability and doubletap, and also to maximize the alpha strike potential.

The most recent addition to the list is the swarm tactics on Norra. It allows Heff Tobber to fire much earlier than he otherwise would. That eliminates the danger of a PS kill and creates it for ourselves. Imagine the case where Heff gets 2 blocks. he gets focus for normal action, target lock and coordinate for the bonus actions, coordinates a focus to Norra. Norra moves and locks the same ship that Heff blocked. thats a 4 dice double modded and a 3 dice double modded coming in at I5, all while being intimidated! That's not even considering Horton, which will have a double tap with rerolls and a focus.

Arvel's job is usually to block the escape routes of enemy aces. However, in low initiative matchups, Arvel is by far the most powerful ship you have, and should be flown like a pure ace, all while leveraging his ability. intimidation is self explanatory on him. predator is there to give him the most amount of punch on him, on close range, bullseye is pretty easy to attain.

Leia does what Leia does, but it is important to note that she helps Heff trigger chain his ability: Let's say he succesfully blocked a ship, and that ship gets subsequently ionized. If Leia is up next turn you can pop her to do a white stop, take your action, and get a bonus action from the bump. If you dont have Leia, you get neither of those actions.

That's pretty much it, don't have much more to say regarding the list, but i do have to point out that i don't have much practice with the list because i don't have rebels, but am planning on acquiring the individual pieces to assemble this list. In the meantime, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

I really like it. It seems well thought out and original. I've no idea how hard it will be to pull off. As you state, a lot is going to depend on being able to get those range one engagements. You've possibly got to keep Heff alive for two rounds of combat before he gets his block.

Thanks for the reply!

Yes, protecting Heff seems to be the biggest issue of the list, and i've considered adding angled deflectors to make him tankier, but... every single point of this list is extremely disputed, so it's really hard to find the space. The most superfluous element on the list imo is Norra's ability, since she is probably the lowest priority target. However, Having an ion torp and turret carrier at I5 is extremely important for the list, so... Norra is pretty much a lock

In any case, if you ever fly this list or tinker with it, please share your experience! I've been brewing it for a couple months and would really like feedback!

I would like to try it! I've got my own experiment to conduct this Friday evening but maybe I'll pack your list as well and see if can give it a whirl!

Nice to see something diferent for Rebels!

Here we just have Ten taking the role that Norra ad on the original list. Unfortunately, we lose Leia, but Baze Malbus is pretty interesting on Heff since we plan to engage on close quarters all the time
