FFG Official, Faction art decorated Damage Decks!!

I just had a friend come back into the game yesterday. "Why do i need the new core set if I'm going to start with the Republic?" my response: "For the damage deck mostly"

Don't get me wrong, the core set is useful, but a separate generic damage deck should have been available at launch last year.

-----------------------------

How many decks will you end up getting?

Agreed - I’m happy this is coming so players who are new don’t have to buy a core set containing ships they may not care about.

The answer to your question is probably 2. I haven’t settled on which two though. It’s primarily because they’re cheap and because it’ll help with epic multiplayer to have the extra decks.

I have the promo t65 so not Rebels.

Bummed about the size. Still, might pick up a Scum one, for the faction and because I’m all for the use of the Fang. MORE MANDALORIANS!

The longer I think about it, the more I feel I'm likely going to eventually get one of each. It's not a high priority item, but it will be a great stocking stuffer and/when/if I win any store credit.

Since I get most of my stuff mail order, it's a great way to round up for free shipping! 🤑

Could be cool to mix cards from various decks. Hits with multiple copies in the deck, one from each source!

Wouldn’t that be deck marking since the backs are different?

You can only do it if you are flying Lando in your list.

Yep, but does it matters? I'm sure you can build an opaque mixed deck, maybe with only two sources.

Yes, it does. Players would absolutely decide to just wear crits if they knew for certain they weren't going to be a Direct or Panicked.

OR,

you can just sleeve the decks with Star Wars Card sleeves that match, since the cards will be standard size now...

The 5-copies card break the deal. Rest of cards are 2 or 4 copies, no way to know the crit if you pick only from two sources. Whatever. Opaque sleeves!

Yeah I’m totally gonna waste my money on these... and to believe I thought I was so special getting the original oversized damage deck

Missed opportunity, FFG! First Order should be using the Tie Silencer, not the TieFO.

Seeing the TieFO used on FO and Tie Interceptor for Empire leaves me wanting Tie Silencer.

Well, it is a promotional item you cannot get elsewhere outside the secondary market. That never changed.

These are amazing. I just marked my obstacles with “custom” Republic stickers, so this is very me. I’m all-in for a themed kit and these are like the most needed piece!

The price is right too!

Whilst I'm happy new players have options, this barely saves any money getting into the game.

E.g.;

Servants of Strife - $40
Dice - $8
Templates - $20
Faction damage deck - $5

Total $73

OR

Servants of Strife - $40
Core Set - $40

Total $80 (This option has 3 more obstacles included and 3 out of faction ships you could trade or sell).

Not to mention these decks are basically the same as the pre-order decks.. They could have gone so many different ways with the design, but no they decided to basically make those decks redundant.

True but since ffg under produced them for the first set of preorders, they then pushed out tons of them right after, everyone who plays at my local store got them after core set came out, release lol my store for sure had surplus at least

Got myself the X-wing damage deck with pre-order and I love to use it. These look cool so I will most likely get the Republic one, though I don't think I'll bother pre-ordering something like this. A Resistance one could be neat too, but the T-65 deck is probably what I'll stick with for them as well. Don't need the other factions cuz I don't play em at all.

To those who didn't want to see the Fang on these, sorry guys. I would've preferred to see the StarViper myself, though again I don't run scum ever. I get that the Fang was Scums first small ship in 2nd ed, but it's hard to shake the feeling that other ships feel a little more iconic of the faction.

These look really cool and thematic, and not too expensive either. Blows my mind GW sells aeronautica imperialis card decks for over 26 bucks and these decks are like 5 bucks..praise the lord.

FANG FIGHTER DAMAGE DECK! YEEEEESSS 🤩🤩

The Vulture one is cool too. Gotta get those 2!

100% getting CIS, and probably Republic/Resistance/Imperial. Might end up getting the Rebel one, too, since the card back looks cooler than the preorder deck? But for playing with friends who don’t have X-Wing, and especially with Epic coming, having more damage decks sounds great! 😁

Unless you want to use Instinctive Aim (could get lucky on E-Bay since it is rarely used so should be cheap). Strangely it is still only available in the 2.0 core set. Only a single copy at that (only one force user in the Core so understandable, though the other 3 Force Talents in the core have 2 copies each there).

The difficulty of acquiring Instinctive Aim still ****s me off.

  • TIE Advanced /x1 equips Missiles and Force Talents. No Instinctive Aim.
  • TIE Silencer equips Missiles and Torpedoes and and Force Talents. No Instinctive Aim.
  • TIE Advanced /v1 equips Missiles and Force Talents. No Instinctive Aim.
    • TIE/v1 expansion also includes Afterburners--an upgrade the ship cannot equip outside of Quickbuild. Seriously, what the everloving ****, FFG?
  • Ghost (VCX-100) equips Torpedoes and Force Talents. No instinctive Aim.
  • BTL-B Y-Wing equips Torpedoes and Force Talents, and it doesn't look like it has Instinctive Aim, but I don't believe the full contents have been officially confirmed.
  • Presumably, Fifth Brother in the Hotshots and Aces pilot pack equips both Missiles and Force Talents like other /v1 pilots, and the pack includes 2 copies each of 5 Force Talents, but Instinctive Aim is not one of them.

So that's 5 ships where there are pilots who can use Instinctive Aim, plus the Reinforcement Pack which is specifically designed to open up additional ways of acquiring harder-to-find upgrades. No F***ING Instinctive Aim.

Oh, and Instinctive Aim isn't cheap on eBay. It's not played a lot, but because of the rarity, it's super expensive. Most US Sellers list it over $10, if it's in stock. It'll frequently be twice the price of the next-highest cost upgrade.

:(

Fun idea but unfortunately I already have a backlog of X-Wing stuff I want to pick up that's only getting longer that I want to snag first. Not to say I won't pick up a Republic deck in a moment of weakness.

I'll be getting 2. For the two factions I mainly play Republic and Resistance.
