Damage Decks

By MasterShake2, in X-Wing

Not a fan of the LCG-sized damage cards, but it's better than having to buy a whole core set.

Now we just need squadron packs for more than just Republic and Separatist.

This is great idea. I was really hoping for some good way to get more damage decks. With 7 factions, I've split all of my factions into their own gaming bags with their own bases, and the damage deck was the one thing I had to keep moving back and forth. Sign me up for one of each of these.

Some people have already called this a money grab, but I completely disagree. This is the last component that requires a core set in order to play X-Wing 2nd Edition. Now someone can buy their preferred ships, a set of templates, dice, the obstacles pack, and a damage deck and have everything they need for a complete game.

Guess FFG wanted to get into the damage deck money grab. I have both rebel and scum damage decks along with a couple of large-sized damage decks that I got at various tournaments.

Then I guess you don’t need one. Some people who don’t have one now don’t have to buy a core set to get one.

I have 4 damage decks, I don’t like the big cards, but what it does allow me to do is introduce the game to anyone foolish enough to ask me what’s X Wing the miniatures game...

This is great for those who only play casual and don't wanna spring for pieced out damage decks on ebay or whatever for more and it's great for the upcoming multiplayer aspect of the game.

I'll probably end up getting the FO and Scum versions

This is awesome and nice to not have to pick up a core set for those that have all of first edition but don't want to go all in on second.

This is awesome, and also a year late.

On release the only thing in the V2.0 core set I wanted/needed was the damage deck. I have managed to get one second hand in the meantime. So lost opportunity for FFG.

*EDIT.

Also noticed odd wording in their news page:

" While the text of these cards might match, their graphic design makes it clear ..."

I know what they meant and I'm being difficult deliberately, but since we love to dissect every rules word written to the last syllable. It immediately raises the question... they MIGHT match... but DO they? :)

I was excited for this until I read that they are bigger sized. Turned me right off, table space is scarce enough as it is... I'll stick to the standard decks, thank you. Shame though, the design is AMAZING!

these damage decks feature LCG® size cards, making them even easier to read and use in battle.

Debatable!

I'm not against the idea of damage decks being sold. Many people can now just buy some rulers, the deck, and then the ships they want to get going (let's not get into needing upgrade cards).

I love some personalisation too. They aren't something I'll be picking up, but I can see others will, and that's cool.

About time, much easier to replace than getting another $40 core set. Heck now it is getting to the point where you don't need to buy the core set anymore. Get the models for your faction, the templates, dice, damage deck, and obstacle pack and you are all set.

Maybe the second pront of these should be smaller. Lots of people here prefer smaller damage deck. I like the large ones.
