Noob asking for help

By shincan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Edit:

I get this now..mods, please delete. Nobody responded anyhow! My bad.

Hello, all. I realize how silly this question will be for many of you. But...I'm a role-player and not a miniatures gamer, and thus I have this question. Some time ago I was given the Force Awakens core. Never played the game, though. Recently, I got ahold of the 2nd edition core. I intend to start with that, assuming the streamlined rules are good. Here's the question: do I need conversion kits if my "old" core parts are to be used? I guess I could get one first order and one resistance conversion kit...but would those be used with the new core?

Help, please!

Hi shincan,

Yes, you will need conversion kits to play any 1.0 ships with 2.0. New pilot cards with initiative changes, dials, etc. For only a couple ships, it may be more worth it to invest those resources into 2.0 expansions instead of two conversion kits... at least at this point.

Thank you!

There are 7 factions now in 2.0, so you should figure out which faction(s) you want to play. The two Clones Wars factions are the newest.

It’s not going to be worth it to convert your one starter from 1.0, since that’s only three ships. You can find individual ship conversions on eBay if you decide those two factions are the two you’re most interested in. (The only parts of the old kit you can use in 2.0 are the dice, the obstacles, and the ships themselves if you get conversions.)

If you haven’t got it yet, 2.0 uses an app on your phone to build lists. (It’s free.) Points and upgrade slots are no longer printed on cards so they can change them periodically to balance the game. Download the app and build some lists. You can see what ships are in each faction and that might help you decide.

Hope that helps!

Thank you!

I get get what you’ve written.....buuuuut if I want to play FO and to begin with use the two TIE In the 1.0 force awakens starter, isn’t it better to buy a $30 conversion for FO than two individual ships at $20 each? Or will I be lacking key content?

If you’re interested in First Order, I would say your best bet is to buy the FO conversion. This is especially true because the Upsilon shuttle is $12 on Amazon for the 1.0 version. I’d suggest getting the Silencer 2.0 version, however, as they improved the model in 2.0 and made it smaller, so it is cheaper than the original. The Tie/sf is actually cheaper new 2.0. Unless you buy on eBay or find on sale at a game store.

One other thing, the 2.0 X-wings (both T-60 and T-70) now have “flappy wings,” if that matters to you. On the Resistance side, they haven’t yet released the large bomber in 2.0 and they never made the Black One repaint in 2.0. If you’re going to collect Resistance, you might want to get those sets in 1.0 and buy the conversion. (The Black One came with the Resistance Falcon in 1.0 in an “aces” pack, which isn’t something they have done in 2.0). New to the Resistance in 2.0 are the A-wing and Transport.

Thank you! Am planning/thinking/comparing...
