Bumping

By Texasmagpie, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have looked throughout the forum (or at least as many pages as I could stand ) for explanation on some specific instances of bumping that keep coming up when my son and I play.

Situation 1)

A I1 Academy pilot bumps into another Tie/In who is I (pick an Initiative greater than 1).

Question 1) Does the I1 Tie complete it’s maneuver (let’s say a 2bank) when the higher initiative completes their maneuver and no longer occupies the space where the I1 would have ended had said space not been occupied?

Situation 2)

My I4 Bwing bumps his I3 Tie and they are face to face, or at least within one another’s arc.

Question 2.1) is only the bumping ship restricted from firing? Or do neither ship fire?

Question 2.2) does bumping restrict firing completely? Can one or either ship fire at ships other than the one they are bumped with?

Thank you for your patience.

Question 1: No, the I1 TIE did not complete its maneuver. The bump already occurred and subsequently it would have lost its ability to take an Action or trigger any abilities that occur after "completely executing a maneuver." The I1 TIE, assuming it has the other ship in Arc (And the other ship belongs to an opponent), can now however shoot the other ship as they are no longer at Range 0.

Question 2.1: With the exception of a few pilots/upgrades, you cannot attack a ship at Range 0. It doesn't matter if you bumped into them or they bumped into you.
Question 2.2: Bumping doesn't prevent firing, being at Range 0 (Except in a few cases as stated in 2.1) is what prevents you from attacking a ship; you can still perform attacks at ships outside of Range 0 if you meet all the other requirements for attack such as range, arc, etc even if you are at Range 0 of another ship.

Thank you sooo much! We really appreciate this.

We both love this game so much. We also have so many questions that come up in our matches.

To expand on this.. Obstructed.

Quote

An attack is obstructed if the attacker measures range through an object. If a ship or device obstructs an attack, there is no inherent effect.

This basically means, those two ships are in a game state of being 'obstructed' which *can* trigger abilities, but without specific abilities (ie just from game rules) it doesnt mean anything. Upgrades like Tactical Scrambler can trigger from the 'obstructed' game state.

Also enjoying playing w/my son (version 1.0) and have a similar basic question:

If my tie fighter collides with their X-wing in my movement phase how do we proceed?

What happens in subsequent rounds after two opposing ships run into each other face to face?

The TIE fighter partially executes its maneuver, then skips its perform action step, and you move on normally. There are no further consequences for partially executing a maneuver.

Keep in mind that a partially executed maneuver only happens when the final position of a ship would overlap another ship. Ships can move through each other just fine. So if two ships bump face-to-face, on subsequent rounds they simply proceed normally.

Also keep in mind that, under normal circumstances, ships cannot shoot at other ships that they are touching. So if a ship partially executes a maneuver and the other ship doesn't move, those ships wouldn't be able to shoot each other that turn. Your TIE fighter can still shoot normally at other ships, however.
