I still want my Tie Hunter ! I like the look of this ship ! ![]()
Anyway I hope the card and missions pack will work and others will follow.
With Epic Ships , why not a campaign box a la Armada next ?

Don't give up on the TIE Hunter! Remember what we went through with the Gunboat??
Oh no... just by mentioning it, I've probably summoned.... THEM...
ANYWAY, I'm convinced the card and mission packs will be a hit and I while the Epic Missions box will most likely be a bunch of disconnected missions, I'm sure we'll get a campaign box at some point!

There is always hope for classic Imperial ships, especially now that FFG is just waiting for LFL to come out with new models.

Their noble fight is a source of inspiration. I still hope to see this Tie Hunter one way or another. ![]()

I cannot agree more.
I mean V1.0 ran for just under 6 years, start to finish.
And V2.0 is less than a year old at the moment.
So I believe we are miles away from seeing all that can be done with 2.0.
But the existence of this thread, and others like it does speak to one thing. Gamers want constant change in their games. Which is kinda ironic since one of the oldest miniature board games (chess) haven't changed in like 500 years.
Unfortunately the pace at which they want change depends a lot on the individual. For me the pace of new X-Wing content at the moment is faster than I can absorb. I only get to play once or if I'm lucky twice a week. Couple this with the point change mechanic that can sometimes drastically change what is possible in a list I don't have nearly enough time to try out everything I want too.
In the end FFG needs to sell new content (not ships necessarily) to keep the average player engaged enough to spend money.

I must be the odd one. While I’m excited when I see new content, I don’t *have* to have it all the time. I spent almost until the release of the N1 starfighter playing with only toys from the conversion kit era (and the couple new ships that came at that time). It was only because someone local was selling off their republic at a fraction of the price of retail that I jumped into a new faction at all.
I completely agree that xwing moves at an extremely rapid pace. I definitely have not “solved” much of anything in it. I get one game night a week, so I know where you’re coming from for sure.

And it seems to be getting faster now than ever.
For V2.0 there are currently 30 ships released over 7 factions. (Including the 3 Wave 0 ones) + on the horizon are card packs, huge ships, epic, and the additional things coming with the bombs and obstacle packs and we have 2 waves with about 17 more ships known.
Compare this with V1.0. After 1 year of the game they were at wave 3. At this point there was a total of 6 Rebel and 6 Imperial ships. And it was almost another year between W3 and W4 to add 2 ships to each faction.
Now obviously because this is V2.0, and it builds on V1.0 they can move along faster. But still, it feels bewildering some days.
To be honest I think it's more a mentality of the players. Instead of focussing on what we have, and what we can do now, we focus on what is coming and what we can do "when" it comes.
So what happens is this: FFG knows they need to sell stuff. And for that they need to market (in other words us the players) all excited. So they sneak-peak and pre-release and spoil future stuff. This gets the job done of exciting us, which leads to players analysing the coming things to death (and a lot of times with only half the info about said future things available). For example see the many discussions on Snap shot and Deplete mechanic etc.
Unfortunately this creates the problem that at the time when the item is actually released people have already become bored with it, and immediately they need something new to take their attention.

Well, the Vikings forgot to make chess "collectible."
I might be wrong, but I think the ever-evolving game is a very new concept, a la Magic the Gathering.
In my youth, a game came in a box, and basically never changed. Even "expansions" was a odd concept.

Same here. I only get to play once a month, so I'm never all that familiar with anything.
Ne'ertheless, the biggest change I am glad to see is the idea that this game can be more than just about the ships. Which is really the point of the existence of this thread--I am hoping that I am seeing a shift in the paradigm in XWM design from "Let's add more gladiators to the arena" to "Ancient Rome is a huge interactive city."

Heh.
Back in the 1990's I was collecting Magic the Gathering, Decipher's Star Wars CCG, and ICE's Middle Earth CCG all at the same time.
Even quarterly, this game feels slow by comparison. And when it was about 2-3 times a year for just 3 factions, I was amazed to hear people complain the release schedule was too fast.

Yeah, basically this.
Blame it on the modern day lifestyle of 24/7/365, internet access, immediacy of everything.
Back when I was a wee lad, you didn't know a product existed until is was actually for sale, on a shelf, in the store. (And we liked it that way!!??)
Edited by Darth Meanie3.0 will arrive. It's as inevitable as the next 40k rulebook.
I'd imagine they'll reduce the size of the ships a little to make the map bigger, and their pockets fuller. Full repurchases obligatory for the new scale...
It'll look cool with more ships in the play area though.
I love Star Wars, but it's a limited IP for pushing a miniatures game for more than a few years (which is why I got off when I did). Rebooting is the only way to maintain profits.

If we ever lose the ability to play with existing product, I’m out.
I imagine there’s a good chance I won’t go into 3.0 regardless. Just playing 2.0 with the print outs if I had to. The game fixed all the problems of 1.0, so now we should just focus on bringing out the new faction content and finding more ways to use the toys we have (or are being rereleased for the new comers)

I'm not sure that a fighter that appeared in all of one video game 16 years ago is 'classic'. At least the gunboat showed up in at least three.

The Starwing was canonized into the current Canon in the Tarkin novel as well iirc.

I actually have never encountered the TIE Hunter ever.
It came just in one of the Gamecube Star Wars games?
It's true that the gunboat, in constrast, appeared in multiple games from 1993 to 2000 (XW, TF, XvT, BoP, XWA). But I don't think screentime is that important. More like how unique the ship itself is and what brings to the table for their faction.
If I am not mistaken, the TIE Hunter it's like an X-wing with ion cannons, right? 2 Laser canons and 2 ion canons. Also torpedoes, and hyperdrive. So it's very much like a Y-wing, or in fact like a gunboat but without the SLAM, systems, or reloading.

Tie Agressor, Tie Punisher, Decimator, Royal Guard Tie Interceptor come from one game and we see them on X-Wing ! ![]()

Yes from Rogue Squadron Rebel Strike. Like the Gunboat we see this ship too from Star Wars FFG Rpg, you fight one on Arda.

Works for me. I'm happy with my OT era collection.
