My favorite FO list

By StriderZessei, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Shared this in another post, and in reddit, figured I'd share it here:

First Order's First Picks

(76) Kylo Ren [TIE/vn Silencer]
(3) Hate
(7) Proton Rockets
(4) Advanced Optics
Points: 90

(45) "Quickdraw" [TIE/sf Fighter]
(10) Special Forces Gunner
(6) Afterburners
(2) Fire-Control System
(2) Predator
(5) Pattern Analyzer
Points: 70

(34) "Scorch" [TIE/fo Fighter]
(2) Fanatical
(4) Advanced Optics
Points: 40

Total points: 200

I know 40 points might seem steep for a single TIE, but Scorch is incredibly good with his upgrades, and his i4 makes him good enough to block the ever popular collection of i5 and i6 pilots seeing play.

This 90 point build of Kylo's seems to be the right balance in my eyes. Advanced Optics really give him the teeth he needs to consistently deal damage. Hate makes him so tanky, it's almost unfair, and he's never starved for Force charges. And that's important because Proton Rockets are really good on a ship with two Force and Advanced Optics.

Lastly, QD is still amazing. Afterburners give her some much needed mobility, and the ability to double reposition, even after a red maneuver, thanks to Pattern Analyzer. I prefer giving her Predator for this reason, as well as two others: 1) it procs immediately, instead of waiting for her to get top half health like Fanatical, and 2) it lets her re-roll two dice with FCS, on each attack.

So yeah, this is my go-to list until Vonreg comes out. Thoughts are welcome!

Pretty much love any QD/Kylo combo for the FO. I’ve been using a Squad Leader Muse with bio codes.

Fanatical/adv optics makes the FO’s two-die primary go a long way. Could be a sneaky good threat given it’s still likely the third priority on the board.

Exactly. No-one looks at a TIE and thinks, "better be careful, or that TIE could give me 4 hits up the wazoo."

He's like the Spanish Inquisition.

Quite liked the idea of Squad Leader Longshot with Bio Codes, since he can stay out at long range.

My issue with that is that if you're using co-ordinate, you're not using focus (and you're unlikely to have a pre-established lock on your target if you have biohexacrypt codes).

So yes, Longshot gets a better attack at long range, but it's actually no better than a normal TIE/fo would get (2 dice with focus = 3 dice without) - personally, I agree I'd rather have Muse - she's cheaper and she handles the big drawback of Squad Leader - the co-ordinate being red.

It doesn't seem steep to me. 40 points is a fair amount, but Scorch is hardly 'a TIE fighter'. With his improved dial, shield, pilot ability and advanced optics, he's at least as good as a generic TIE/x1 advanced, and that's pretty much how he's priced.
