May I add that in that list the Commissar Kimogila should spend most of his time shooting his own side?

This thread is too fun not to follow.

Exactly! And the Z's just recklessly K-turning and Baffling off the stress and K-turning again. Lol.

I love it.

The best four rounds you'll ever play.

Would it be unethical to take this list to a tournament? (See the ethics thread about manipulating the standings on purpose...)

And, would your answer change if there were a prize for last place?

Unethical? Nah... You bring it to a tournament to troll the lower rung standings and give them a game to laugh about. If they have a sick sense of humor. It might help if you respond with every lost Z-95 with “SEND IN THE NEXT WAVE!”

Surprisingly it might actually be difficult to pull off a last place in a tournament. If you do it right, you’re damaging and blowing their ships up through the destruction of your own. Possible chain reactions make it even more likely to happen. 2 damaged Zs uncomfortably near to a damaged Y-Wing for example could result in a chain reaction where a Z eats a Concussion Missile and blows up, the nearby Z takes 1 damage and reveals an existing damage card, and also blows up, and the Y ends up taking 2 damage due to both Deadman’s and reveals a horrific damage card.

Back in v1 this list was far worse thanks to Harpoon Missiles. It’s claim to fame at my LGS was when 4 Zs cleared themselves, a harpooned Kavil, and an undamaged Talonbane off the board. Game state when from a 8 ships with 6 in a scrum, to two ships and a nice dissipting cloud of space dust from the Kimogila plugging a Z’s tailpipe with *yet another* harpoon. Your v2 mileage may vary.

@Gilarius , no and no.

Do it!!

Very tempted!

There is a prize for last place at the next tournament, for each faction (top and bottom in faction). I would not be comfortable deliberately trying to lose any games, so if I took this list I would be trying my best to win. But it's definitely a weak list and gaming the system to still be in with a shout of getting a prize.

Hence, is it ethical to do this?

Hmm.

The scum literally have a *tournament legal* upgrade card that costs zero points that allows you to legally shoot your own ships.

And an upgrade that does splash damage when you are destroyed.

Unethical?

Apparently not.

Go in there, do what the squad does, have fun and blow stuff up.

...if you get 0 and 6 with it and land that last place prize for scum, LEt US KNOW!!

Just seen a pic of the prize - damage deck holder, with a faction symbol on, plus a matching ship marker. For some reason, the Resistance one has a Black Sun symbol (which I'd like) whereas Scum get a Mythosaur skull. I've got one of those already...but I might be able to swap it if I did manage to win it?

With the prize being for last-in-faction, I could even win a game and still get it. I'm going to pack the list up for practice night and see if it is fun to lose with...

If you run that Expendables list, by all means feel free to name it anything you want! Other names I was thinking about include “Flight of the Lemmings”, “Not One Step Back”, and “PROMOTIONS!”

I've got a new worker for the Salt Mines.

Prince Chonxizor. Has to be at least Virago, Shield Upgrade, and Hull Upgrade. 8 health. Pass the damage along to all your minions. I tried flying him with 2 Y-Wings (Ion Cannon Turret) and Zuckuss (Predator). There's something fun about Zuckuss just rolling ALL THE DICE.

Fly the anti-Soontir, Turr plus two sabers and two alphas, you have 8 points for upgrades. I bet you will loose every game even if you fly well.

The Expendables battle reports.

I played 2 games tonight with the Kimogila and Z95 swarm.

Overall, the Z95s were amazing, scaring (and killing) aces, and doing all the heavy lifting. The Kimogila was...weak. And ineffective.

Game 1, vs Old Teroch, Palob, Capt Seevor, and a Hired Gun Y-Wing with Deadman's Switch, Genius, Proton Bombs, and Intimidation.

I jousted, we exchanged shots, blocked, etc. Killed Old Teroch after blocking him onto a debris. Baffled off a stress to suicide-kill a one-health Palob, and finished off the Y-wing and Capt Seevor plus one of my own Z95s by shooting the last health off the Y-wing, which killed one of my Z95s, which in turn put the last damage into Seevor! A very satisfying end to the game.

I lost just the 2 Z95s, although the remainder of the list were all badly damaged. 200-100.

Game 2, a three-way fight featuring the previous scum list, plus Obi-Wan, Wolffe, and 2 Torrents.

This ended with my last 2 Z95s (each on one hull), vs a one hull Obi-wan and a one hull Palob, after Obi and Palob had fired. I'd blocked Obi-wan by k-turning into him, facing back at Palob. It took both shots to get the last damage into Palob, then the blocker Baffled to kill himself and Obi-wan, leaving a single Z95 on the table out of the original 14 ships.

The Kimogila was simply too slow and cumbersome to get into decent shooting positions, and melted too quickly to make much difference. 2 more Z95s would be better, and more fun.

I didn't actually shoot any of my own ships, because I was winning! :D

Kimos can do some work, esp with bullseyeing targets. And one of the few Scum ships with 3 hard. Still I really wish they had boost instead of red Barrel roll, though.

As for the squad's success, that is pretty hilarious. But still, 5 Kihraxzes with Deadman Switch are supposedly brutal as well, have not tested that (having 6 Kihraxzes I should really try it some day) or encountered it myself.

What about switching the M12L for

Kavil with Dorsal, VTG, R5TK, Seismic?

Same cost, more versatility. Actually, that might make the list too good for the tread's aim :)

I've replaced the Kimogila with Sol Sixxa, complete with dorsal turret, skilled bombardier, proton and seismic bombs, and delayed fuses.

Still cumbersome, but has a 2nd arc, plus bombs. Should be more fun. I'll be flying them tomorrow at the tournament, no longer aiming for last place, but seeing how many games I can win with them!

Edit: I also have a pile of kihraxzs which I need to fly. Maybe later...

Throw munitions failsafe on there for some real added value.

Swapping the Kimo for a Scurrg sounds awesome and hilarious if you’re using bombs! The main reason I go with the Kimo is because if you can get a damage card on an enemy ship (or 3), and then plug a Z-95 with a Concussion Missile, you get to flip damage cards on their ships. In v2 this has the potential for catastrophic chain reactions if they flip something like Direct Hit, or Fuel Leak.

So, tournament report. 5 rounds, great fun was had!

Game 1, vs Jendon, Grand Inquisitor, and 2 Generic Inquisitors.

Tough matchup, I was out-played and my dice were poor. I got half damage on Jendon, plus 1 damage on each of the normal Inqs and half on GI. He managed his range control very well and used concussion missiles to kill Z95s at long range. The only damage I managed using my guns was on Jendon, but I ran out of ships before he ran out of health! Terrible red dice from me, amazing green from him. Bombs and splash from the dying Zs were the only way I hurt the Inqs.

Game 2, vs Torkil, Seevor, and 3 Cartel Marauders.

We ended up jousting; I blocked him; his dice were appalling, mine were decent (being the one with mods helped). I lost one Z95, 2 more halved, and he had an undamaged Seevor left when time was up.

Game 3, vs triple Silencers (Blackout, Recoil, Test. All with Advanced Optics plus Fanatical.)

Another hard matchup. To get shots at all, I needed to barrel roll and k-turn a lot, but even when I pulled off nice blocks, his dice were better than mine. I got Recoil down to one hull, and the Test Pilot to 2, but couldn't quite kill any. Half the damage I did was from exploding Z95s and bombs. I almost took out Recoil by hitting a rock next to him with a 1-hull Z, but I rolled a blank on the damage die!

Game 4, vs Deathrain, Vader, and Soontir.

More aces. I pulled off several blocks and achieved repeated kill-boxes for the aces - Yay! But (almost) no dice mods, due to all the tricky movements needed to do this. Soontir finally died, after I'd fired 21 red dice over 3 turns in a row into his tokenless green dice! At time, Deathrain was still 1 damage away from giving up half points, and I had 2 wounded Z95s left. Boo.

Game 5, vs Whisper, Vader, and Grand Inquisitor. How many aces?!

This was a fine game of cat-and-mouse. He only got an occasional shot off, due to my blocks and him taking evasive action to avoid being bombed to pieces or trapped in kill-boxes.

He killed 2 Z95s and halved the other 3. I killed GI (both shields from bombs, then he flew off the mat trying to avoid another bomb plus blocks/shots) and halved Whisper. 100-98 pts win to me!

Overall, the list was great fun, and more competitive than it had any right to be. The bombs were essential against so many aces, and the fear of the Deadman's Switches did help a lot. My damage output and defense dice were more dice-dependant than I like, due to the red moves and barrel rolls needed against aces. The one game I had without any aces, I got dice mods and did a lot better in.

Oh, and the bottom player in faction turned out to be - Me! I came 23rd out of 28, last of the 2-3s, 3 places below my son, but got the snazzy damage deck holder I wanted despite actually trying my best to win.

@Gilarius , you are the current King of the Salt Mines in my book! Thanks for the report on The Expendables!

That was a thrilling report! I might have to finally take that list to a tournament and see how glorious success I can do!
