Dunwich Horror and the Doom Track

By The Professor, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Having played quite a few games now with DH as the expansion, I'm a bit sketchy on the details surrounding the Dunwich Horror . I know how he comes about ~ three monsters into the vortices, and voila! One Dunwich Horror. I also know that each time a monster enters a vortex, the Terror Track increases by 1. Here's the part I'm not sure about. According to the rules,"While it [ Dunwich Horror ] remains in play, each time it moves, there is a chance that another doom token is added to the Ancient One’s doom track."

What is that chance?

Thanks,
The Professor

I find it funny that people ask questions on components without even reading said components.

Well, at least you know that vortexes cause terror-ups (which is actually their scariest ability). Note that they continue to raise the terror level when things enter them even when the Dunwich Horror is awake.

DH has a 1/2 chance to add a doom token when it moves, and it has a 1/3 chance to move any given round, so 1/6 chance to add a doom token total on any given round.

With the DH herald this changes to 2/3 chance each time it moves, 2/3 chance to move any given round: 4/9 chance to add a doom on a given round. Also, with the herald, the DH will wake up about three times as often.

Do all monsters have the same chance of movement? Or is it different for each symbol?

There are three groupings of monster symbols, and those three groups are spread pretty evenly, so each symbol generally comes up a third of the time.

After nearly 20+ games, many of which I've captured on Tibs' spreadsheet, I can't believe that I asked such a 'rookie' question.

*shrug* It happens.

::Shrug:: everyone asks stupid questions and comes up with stupid rulings every now and then. I did investigator movement wrong for over a year (and I didn't understand how the first player token worked— basically I'd prean investigator order and it would never shift around).

What I can't believe is that you can't believe that you could ask a question like that after only twenty games ;'D you should still be asking questions like that at a hundred.

I seem to recall a thread started by Avi a while ago with a question about monster movement or something of the sort which I answered and we both had a laugh because it was my misunderstanding of the rule in a seperate conversation that prompted the question in the first place.

Well, despite the long-awaited FAQ, it's a sign of a great game that can foster this level of conversation among gamers from around the world ~ bring-on the questions!
