Need a hand with a pesky pilot...

Wait... what's this? A thread NOT about future Star Wars products?! GASP AND AWE!!!

Okay, enough sarcasm. I legitimately need advice on countering a pilot. Which pilot? A juke equipped Rexler Brath. A player at the shop I play at builds... well... EVERY FRIGGIN list around this guy and I'm lucky if I have the shields off Brath. I've tried focusing fire, ions, bombs, mines, tractors, all the torpedoes... nadda. I've thrown the Rebels, Republic, and the Resistance at him an d it NEVER fails... I'll kill off the wingmen, but Brath? He laughs off EVERY attack and trick I throw at him...

Basically... help. =_=

Well first things first, what types of list do you typically fly? How are you approaching Rex? Defenders can be fairly predictable and easy to read from a movement perspective. Is there also Adv. Sensors involved? How many and what types of wingmen does Rex have? Easier to know what to tell you advise wise if we have more information vs just generalizations.

If Rexler has Juke, he'll want to be going fast. This limits his movement options, so blocking him becomes more feasible.

@Ronu is correct however, we need more information about what you fly, and what Rexler is being flown alongside.

big rocks to gum up the 4ks, warning he will still get the evade.

You can ignore him too. Especially if you can force him to use boost/BR a lot, his attack is really weak: 3 dice no focus. for easily 90/200 points. I've mashed up his support, and that pressured my opponent to get Rex into position faster than he planned, which made them hit rocks on the way in. And Rexler wasn't quite able to do serious damage.

I'll admit, was pretty scary tho.

A good block sounds good. and then punch with something hard. If its Adv Sensors Rex... Well. they won't get the evade. At that point you just need to fly better, and get some good shots in there.

Block him. Blocking non-AS defenders is fairly easy. Direct damage gets through the shields, so bombs, optimised prototype, etc. Debris is the best type of obstacle, stress makes him more predictable and it turns off the evade.

Depending on the rest of your list just outlast him. Kill his allies then fly defensive if you still have a points advantage.

Build a counter list around Hera in the VCX with Seasoned Navigator, Intimidation and Zeb... then go for Rexler, get right up in his grille and wreck him.

He can’t Juke an evade result when you’re not rolling any green dice! 😛

Something along these lines may be worth a try;

(73) Hera Syndulla [VCX-100 Light Freighter]
(0) Ghost
(1) "Zeb" Orrelios
(7) Seasoned Navigator
(3) Intimidation
(6) Collision Detector
(3) Shield Upgrade
Points: 93

(32) AP-5 [Sheathipede-class Shuttle]
(2) Phantom
Points: 34

(55) Wedge Antilles [T-65 X-wing]
(0) Servomotor S-foils
(2) R4 Astromech
(6) Outmaneuver
(6) Afterburners
Points: 69

Total points: 196

Get Hera into Rexlers face and flank with Wedge... even a Defender will melt with 5-dice R0 attacks with -1 agility and shots from Wedge with -1 or -2 agility depending on whether or not Outmaneuver triggers!

Hera’s ability plus Seasoned Navigator gives you lots of dial changing options, which are especially handy if you get to move after Rex... but even if you’re moving first the large base is great for blocking, with Collision Detector there for if you manage to set up a block on a rock so you can shoot without him getting to shoot back. ;)

Once you’ve deleted Rex with extreme prejudice a few times, he might try flying something else... :o

Not Rexler but I've found jamming Ric Olié really helps when he has an evade and a focus token nearly every turn. I've been using Tavson with biohexacrypt codes, not sure what jamming options other factions have though.

Stops them using juke and makes them easier to kill.

If thinking of First Order, Midnight might be worth a look, too - he can still use Juke offensively, but his inability to use the evade or focus on the defence could help.

Wedge is good advice; ultimately Rexler defends with Focus and Evade on three green dice. That's as close to three evades in the tank as makes no odds against the first attack, and one evade against every incoming shot even once the tokens run out.

However . Green tokens cannot generate more evade results than you have green dice in the first place. Which makes Wedge Antilles, or Outmaneuver, probably amongst the more dangerous options.

Block him and or stress him.

Defenders are unreasonably hard to kill (living up to their name), but they're also very expensive for their damage output. Rexler rolls 3-4 dice, likely getting 2-3 hits, possibly spending a token to get there, either swatting away a token or getting an extra hit in. Against, say, an X-Wing with a focus token, he's not likely to do much more than removing a shield or two.

Honestly I'm surprised you're struggling against Rexler with Resistance. X-Wing and A-Wing generics are both solid blockers, fast, pretty tough, usually focusing and rolling lots of dice. Don't bring L'ulo though, he's too squishy. Nien is great, Poe is pretty good. You could also try a Shuttle and jam him before he gets his free evade, cancelling out both Juke and his ability.

Throw as much red dice as you can at him. That can be Torpedoes or lots if cheap jousters. 5 Kihraxes can throw out the damage. CIS swarms with ESC are good, especially if you can get a DRK-1 in there for double mods. Sit on the rocks while he K-turns all day.

Anything with a Jam action is good. Give him stress, too. Hinder humor make him more predictable.

Trajectory Simulator and Proton Bombs could work.

Your options are:

1) take away his tokens through blocking, jam, or stress

2) throw enough red dice that the dice fail him

As a Rexy player...

What helps (and what I hate to sit across from):

Kylo or Old Teroch with a bigger bid

Fenn

Wedge

Sense or Cassian Crew

Seevor/Torkil Mux gang

Palob

Vader Crew

Quadjumpers

Juke (doesn’t like his own medicine)

I’ll add more when I think of them. Good luck!

Five Cartel Marauders :)

Rexlar shouldnt be able to handle/dodge multiple focused 3 dice arcs

Anti-Rexy

(56) Old Teroch [Fang Fighter]
(3) Fearless
Points: 59

(37) Torkil Mux [HWK-290 Light Freighter]
(18) Moldy Crow
Points: 55

(30) Captain Seevor [Modified TIE/ln Fighter]
Points: 30

(50) Talonbane Cobra [Kihraxz Fighter]
(3) Fearless
Points: 53

Total points: 197

Assuming here he’s a 200 point Rexy Builder.

I'll try a few of these tomorrow... and I wish i could give more info on who he flies Brath with but it changes every time. Last week it was 2 loaded to the teeth gunboats, before that, TIE Interceptors.

But always Brath...

Hmm... maybe Luke with Predictive Shot...

If he is being cagey with Rex, then you should be able to persuade him to run. Then, overwhelming his teammates should be fairly routine, being only half a list.

Its fruitless trying to kill a Rex that runs.

So it will all come down to your combined approaches. Yours will need to be overtly threatening Rex in such a way that his return to action is delayed/predictable, whilst making sure your real goal of catching the wingmates remains as open as possible.

Ideally, you deal a bunch of damage to them, then while they regroup, you catch Rex as he swings in to make up the points. Half pointed, or very nearly, Rex should definitely run, leaving you to polish the others off.

At the very least, you may be able to tank/ignore that 1 round of fire from Rex, if you need to stick a bit more of a screw on the rest of the squad. This is where it gets a bit nip and tuck ofc.

Clearly, this works great in text. Actually putting the moves together on the table and forcing your opponent to go where you want them is all just down to good gameplay though. Which is really the ultimate answer, more than anything that can be put in a list. Fortunately :D

Just give him my green dice. That way a range 2 unmodified 2 dice attack will make him spend the evade when he rolls all blanks, and still do one damage.

I really don’t see the issue here. People are acting as if green dice have paint on them.

Luke with brilliant evasion should work well against Juke. I have a brother who also loves Rexlar and Luke has worked well (especially with a bid).

Blocking him isn't too hard if you know he wants to use the 3-5 straight template or a 3 turn in usually one direction. I'm guessing they have some habits you can catch on to as well if you play against their Rexler often enough. The same is true for people who consistently fly Kylo or Whisper, at least around me.

Let us know how you bring him down once you do!

If you're up for playing scum, my suggestion would be one of the following two:

Fenn / Fat Boba

OR...

Boba / Fat Guri

Either one comes in with a 10+ bid.

ignore him and win on point. He's half a lift with a really poor offense.

Seasoned Navigator is way way overkill on Hera's ability. I'd personally go:

Hera Syndulla (VCX-100) (73)
Intimidation (3)
Advanced Sensors (10)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Saw Gerrera (9)
Ship total: 96

So what she's doing is AS a lock, move up to range one or bump (blocking Rexler if you can, bumping him if you can't), and then Saw off a shield when you engage for rerolls plus the lovely crit cascade. Though honestly if you're really wanting to block Defenders, I almost think Chopper would be a solid choice. If you block them they don't get the tokens. If you ram them they lose them anyway.
And then build up from there. I like some extra Intimidation A-Wings for more defensive reduction and blocking power, and a coordinate is great so she can get reinforce as well. Try this:

Hera Syndulla (VCX-100) (73)
Intimidation (3)
Advanced Sensors (10)
"Zeb" Orrelios (1)
Saw Gerrera (9)
Phoenix Squadron Pilot (30)
Intimidation (3)
Phoenix Squadron Pilot (30)
Intimidation (3)
AP-5 (32)
Leia Organa (6)

Total: 200

Jan Ors can give you a bigger gun if you really want it. Or leave Leia at home if you really want the bid. Shield upgrade instead if you're okay with a smaller bid.

Blocker swarms with as many 3-dice attacks as you can get. You know he’s going fast so when he comes at you make sure you have ships in the way. If he slow-rolls you get to shoot with every ship and he has no evade. If he doesn’t then he bumps and you’ve got a full swarm firing at a tokenless ship.

Also any list with Intimidation Arvel and Wedge in it just stomps all over defenders.

Lol Arvel and Wedge were my old staples... may have to dust then off to slay this dragon.

Four medium bases should block his socks off...

Quad ARC170s with toys should do the trick, in my opinion.

Double or triple Firesprays as well.
