First 50 RPQ Data

By TalkPolite, in Star Wars: Legion

Hey all,

Now that the first 50 RPQs are behind us, the LTC crew wanted to provide you with a break down of the data we have collected so far. Congrats to those that have won events around the world, and we look forward to working with the rest of the data at the end of this season!

Big thanks goes out to Jon Bushman for putting the chart together, and the LTC team for collecting the data. The link to our findings can be found here:

LINK!

Those of you who would like to check the chart out can do so here: https://legiontournamentcircuit.com/tournament-data/

The RPQ data chart is still missing events - if you have won an event and it’s not listed above, please email us at [email protected] with your name, link to your list (TTA or Legion HQ please) and number of participants, so we can add it. Feel free to email us at the same address if you see any errors in the chart.

Happy Tuesday!

Wow, nice breakdown!

Question, on the unit count section, is that individual units used, or number of players that used said unit? Just asking because if my list made up 1/2s of E-Webs used, I'm gonna laugh.

The better question would have been to ask what each RPQ winner defeated using their lists (and also what near runners up there were)

It's pretty obvious why the T-47 isn't shown in any of the lists.

FFG has a problem on their hands. I wonder how they will address activation spam + sniper spam.

The appaernt answer is nothing and other cheap options if shoretroopers and vets are any indication

Correct, there are play style counters for everything.

The most obvious answer is that probably nobody played it.

But you don’t actually know if that’s true or not, so there’s no point in navel gazing about it.

I should add that if xwing is any indicator, ffg will be great at dropping fixes to issues that aren't relevant anymore.

Which is more a indication that the player base is far too quick to gripe for a fix rather than finding one in the cards they have......

Except when it comes to tournaments, you bring your "all-comers" lists. A list that you perceive to be best against what you plan to play against. One of the best counters to snipers just happens to be snipers. Which is why we will see these guys in all successful tournament lists until there is a change, or a new unit that is a cost-efficient counter is released. Who knows, maybe CIS might be a solid counter due to large number of squads.

Why do you think no one brought it? Why do tournament players stay far away from vehicles in general?

Yeah, trying to gather what every winner played against would be very difficult to attempt - just getting what we had was hard enough. I did make efforts to not make assumptions from the data, but just let it speak for itself.

To an earlier question, I believe it’s total number of times that was included in a list? But I’m sorry id have to ask Jon to be sure!

That’s my working assumption (vis CIS squad sizes).

I've seen the T-47 pop up once or twice at RPQs. Every case that I recall left the player using them towards the bottom of the rankings. Now, I'm sure you could then debate "they were unskilled/novice players and that's why they lost" vs "they lost because they sunk a ton of points into a mediocre/bad unit" angles, but they are being used, if very, very rarely.

I don't think we are likely to see than many more activations in CIS lists given how expensive every single option but B1s is. They aren't a swarm faction, they just have one swarm unit.

edit: changed "fact" to "faction"

Sniper spam and trooper spam in general have taken serious hits in our local meta and area RPQs just with the introduction of Tauntauns. Our last RPQ only had 3 strike teams out of the top 4 lists, but 5 units of Tauntauns and none of the lists were particularly spammy in terms of activations. your mileage may vary, but Tauntauns are killing off trooper and sniper spam for us.

Good point. Snipers are less effective against B1s but the CIS is I’ll have a plethora of other juicy targets for them. Also, B1s have been pretty underwhelming in my games. Not sure if they are even a “counter”.

Like what? B2s have Armor 1, so a Sniper either needs 2 hits or crits to even hurt them and crits only if they have heavy cover and even then it's just a wound, not a dead model. Destroyers have 4 shields that can't be pierced until they're down and killing random B1s that can't be suppressed is pretty useless. CIS actually seems pretty resistant overall to snipers.

I have yet to play with or against Tauntauns, so I don’t know how viable they are (I’ve heard that they seem very strong though).

I do predict snipers will still be taken due to their cheap cost and activation padding.

Good point it seems like snipers aren’t effective against the separatists given the separatists current options.

Unfortunately, snipers are effective against 80% of the competition so I expect to see them until we see a cost effective counter for all factions.

Tauntauns seem pretty effective, they present a clear and present danger to infantry, can hit into melee from range 3, and have 4 hp each.

A double walk + shoot is over range 5 and with 4 red dice and sharpshooter 1, they just kill snipers from the other side of the table

The ram and the ability to leave melee at will (but also tie up enemy units that haven’t activated) is the more dangerous threat imo

Remeber the unit can also jump out of melee with 1 unit, shoot and kill snipers, then jump back into melee with a different unit. Never underestimate those pistols and how far away they can reach out and touch targets.

I'm new to the game. Could you explain how this works?
