Two swords fall from heaven - New L5R story

I reckon it was Kaede and Toturi on the way out that put the guards to sleep.

I think Mitsu would have noticed if there were two groups leaving through the gate.

I'm rather surprised Kachiko asked Sumiko to become acting Emerald Champion so soon. Not only is the Dragon outside her influence but moving so quickly makes it rather obvious she was prepared for Toturi to go missing and isn't expecting him to return.

"I imagine it took a turn for the worse..." (the Emperor’s health) almost made me LOL.

It's good that Sumiko and Yaruma aren't exactly taking everything at face value, especially when it concerns the Scorpion.

Now Mitsu just have to cross paths with Kaede's group and the party is almost complete.

But I was not expecting Hitomi to be the one in charge of guarding Sotorii's new residence, this will be interesting.

It's interesting to think about - if you were a minor diplomat in the Imperial City, what would you do if you found out that the Emperor was dead, his youngest missing (maybe kidnapped by the Unicorn), the Emerald Champion is also missing and oh, by the way, there's an army from the Dragon Lands that has materialised overnight and is suddenly guarding the Imperial Palace? Especially if we then hear rumours of the missing Prince sighted in the company of the Dragon Champion's chosen heir and then other rumours (from an unknown source, of course) suggesting that the Emerald and Ruby Champions didn't really see eye to eye? That sounds like an incredibly brazen coup attempt to me.

Dragon... clan coup?

**** yeah.

BTW, new Scorpion Vassal Family.

Yep, I noticed that. I also noticed that the Aotora family already exists, which is too early! They were made vassals for looking after the Shosuro gardens while the Clan was ronin after the coup.

So... Togashi Mitsu is the third wheel for Shaisetsu? That's interesting...

The look Shahai gave Daisetsu was all too easy to read, but Mitsu doubted Lord Togashi had sent him there just to help two teenagers elope.

I like how he immedieatly jumps to this :D !

Mitsu would probably show up out of nowhere at the last moment to do something dramatic

Oh of course he will.

I love it when the Dragon clan samurai are trying to figure out their vague instructions. Who knows if anyone did the right thing in this story per Yokuni's vision.

I like the Dragon army did intersect with Daisetsu's story line. Also I like that Mitsu and Hitomi helped different princes. I'm wonder if people will be asking pretty soon why Sumiko had an army at the capital so quickly after a crisis. Also I hope we circle back to the Dragon lands soon to see if raising this army had any negative effects to the already taxed and beleaguered Dragon lands.

I think last he heard of them back home the Perfect Land sect was planning an insurrection while their army was gone.

Actually if anything it may have been a positive for the Dragon as one of their main issue has been food shortages due to the Crane not being able to supply rice the way they were in the past due to the tsunami damage. Since the Dragon can't exactly be running a supply train for their covertly moving army they would have taken what supplies they could reasonably carry when they left, but after that its a significant number of bodies that you aren't feeding out of your limited stores. Short term it may have been difficult as you had to extend what limited stores you had to supply them, but long term they are now someone else feeding problem and not yours.

In any event Mitsu, Shahai and Daisetsu is an interesting collection of characters. It's a great sign that I'm always left wanted more after these fictions. I wanna see where they are going.

My biggest problem with Mitsu is that he is not egligible for a love triangle.

Sure he is, he's a buff older mentor who walks around shirtless most of the time. Even if she isn't actually interested in him I can easily see Daisetsu getting jealous of how he perceives that Shahai looks at him. From there it all goes downhill in a series of misunderstandings as he asks her what she thinks of him and she says something like he's extremely impressive (referring to his skills) and he sees it as her expressing romantic interest.

Mitsu is a monk. It is literally written onto his skin in case Daisetsu forgets it.

So my thoughts on this story are, yeah this will end poorly. I don't think we'll see Dragon taking the blame for what happened as Sumiko has plausible deniability for her actions, and despite inferences else where we haven't actually seen any evidence that she had issues with Toturi (in fact he has praised her in the past).

Mitsu and DaiHai being linked up together has the potential for all kinds of shenanigans so I like that. Obviously at some point they will need to separate so that DaiHai can start down the dark path to forming Spider that so many fans are hoping for.

Now the main question I have is where do DaiHai head as the fact they were stealing horses obviously means they are planning a longer journey (so yes Unicorn lands are a safe bet) and does Mitsu try to steer them towards Dragon lands so that Yokuni can offer guidance.

Ise Zumi are not forbidden from having relationships, it may be frowned upon but its not forbidden, and Mitsu was noted for being very popular with the ladies in the old lore as memory serves.

Mitsu is still human. Even if you are a monk you still have desires and people can still have you as the target of their desires. Even in Rokugan. Actually I'd say that exact struggle is a big part of the setting. Your human wants and needs are at odds with what society expects of you. Also aren't the spiciest romantic tales about forbidden love anyway. Sometimes we get Toturi and Kaede. Sometimes we get Kachiko and Hotaru.

There is a tendancy in L5R fandom to put people in clean buckets. They wouldn't do that because they are a Scorpion or because they are a Shugenja. We'll they are all human. Humans make mistakes and fail to live up to their ideals. Maybe they strive to be good Cranes or good Monks, but it's in their failure where we get the interesting stories.

I mean, Daisetsu will not be jealous to a tattooed monk of all people. His reaction would be more akin bewilderment from seeing a middle-aged monk hitting on his waifu. Kind of like "Wow, Rokugan has really fallen deep... Maybe it is time to create an order of murderous warrior monks? Call 'em Order of the Venom or something." instead of "Not my waifu you dirty monk REEEEEEEE!"

I hoped for Dairu to become the third wheel: thus the triangle could become a full cricle with Daisetsu - Shahai - Dairu - Daisetsu for maximum romantic tension. Mitsu is an interesting pick, but he kinda kills the romantic angle because he obviously ships the kids and he looks more like a mentor figure and not a rival.

This is turning into a harem manga. Daisetsu is the main char, Shahai is the main love interest, Mitsu is the harem nanny, Dairu is the unlucky childhood friend - all we're missing is an exotic foreigner, a stoic no-nonsense Samurai-ko and a hard-drinking party girl to complete the common roster.

Mitsu and DaiHai........

Pump the brakes.

Are you seriously trying to push, yet another, new name on this ship?

I just had to invoke the dark knowledge to get AtoMaki on track with Shaisetsu....

And now this. Come on man!!!!!!

On a more serious note, I'm wondering if FFG isn't setting this up to alter the old story and have Mitsu replace Kokujin as the Shadowlands tainted monk we all remember from the old lore?

I could get down with that.
