You know what else has red stripes and (sometimes) a large ventral cannon? The Venator.

How many bridges does the Venator have? Two.

The same as the number of Sith in the galaxy.

Who made the Rule of Two? Darth Bane.

A force ghost. Just like Palpatine.

Meaning Palpatine is confirmed for Episode IX!

Who here thinks that big red laser blast at 1:25 is an Onager performing a planetary bombardment?

I like what I see.

Who are you who are so wise in the ways of science?

I thought that until the revelation of the Imperial 1 Star Destroyers having a large ventral cannon.

Did anyone else notice C-3PO turned into 0-0-0?

It is entirely possible that's a Mandator IV, supposedly multiple were in production.

Ah phooey. Oh well, at least we get real star destroyers again. I'm guessing thrawns secret fleet, come to throw down against the first order in some new vs old carnage. It's been my theory for some time.

God I can only hope.

I’m okay with what we got.

However I think a New Republic/Imperial Remnant/First Order conflict would’ve been inherently more interesting than Resistance/First Order.

I seriously hope Thrawn cameos in the film! This is our last chance to see him on the big screen in a role that is both a cameo and important to the story.

I'm really quite excited for this film. It looks grand and epic. Whatever happens with the story, I just want to see spaceships fight and explode, and see more options for toys in my minis games lol. If I get my wish of Thrawn, evil Rey, and ISDs throwing down against Resurgents, that's all happy bonus!

Perhaps a certain blue boy we all thought lost is leading that ridiculously enormous fleet of Star Destroyers back from the unknown regions to kick some First Order butt...in the name of the old regime.

Afterall Thrawn is all about order and stability and anything Kylo Ren leads will not be that.

I think that laser blasting the mountain is from an Onager class Star Destroyer.

That's literally the best case I can imagine, but it's not going to happen.

Not gonna lie, all of the hope you guys have in this and the decent ideas you're throwing out makes me far more interested than the trailer itself did.

I want it to be thrawn, but i doubt it will be

I expect dark rey just to be the cave scene with luke from empire

I expect that fleet just to be the Starkiller base / Supremacy equiv with no explanation as to where it came from aside from "we found this mothballed fleet".

I really, really want it to be benjamin cucumber (j/k) playing thrawn showing up to enforce order amongst kylo/that gingers chaos.

Seriously though, this is being written by the guy that wrote justice league and batman v superman, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

@dominosfleet if it brings you any comfort always remember the guy who wrote the brilliant Chernobyl miniseries has written Scary Movie 3 & 4, The Superhero Movie, The Hangeover Part 2 & Part 3, and The Huntsman: Winter War.

Craig Mazin

I like to think as an aspiring writer myself, that we must write a lot of crap to get better.

Now the guy co-writing Rise of Skywalker, Chris Terrio, also wrote Argo which is a great film.

I’d also go so far as to say that Batman V Superman was not a terrible movie because of the writing, the writing was for the most part meh, but moreso studio interference that prevented a singular vision guiding the film. I haven’t seen Justice League but I hear that was also plagued by studio interference and rewrite **** probably because of execs.

Now I feel Rise of Skywalker is the exact opposite scenario to the DC films. Lucasfilm is given a lot of leeway by Disney. Kathleen Kennedy gives also her directors a lot of leeway (partly why it’s so stupid people get angry at her for a film). JJ Abrams is a director with a strong and clear vision and seems to have enough clout to do what he wants. And JJ is co writing it.

All this to say, I get your concern, and if you disliked The Last Jedi I get it even more, but I have faith The Rise of Skywalker will at the worst by an average quality film.

I doubt it is Thrawn after this trailer. After the first trailer I too was hoping the ISD 1 with the red paint was Thrawns but now that we have identified the hundreds of ISDs to also have the same red paint my guess is that those ISD belong to the same fleet (as the one seen in the first trailer) and I think it would be very unrealistic for Thrawn/the Chiss to secretly have build thousands of ISDs. Such a hidden Armada (😂) could only be amassed by the Senate himself.

I just hope we get these ISD-Is and that their parts are fully compatible with the ISD-IIs we've already got. This would allow easy kitbashs for proper Is. Just break them apart and replace the underside with that from the ISD expansion.

Although I also suspect that Dark Rey is just a Force vision, I think the idea of her being a clone shouldn't be dismissed. It's supported by the cave scene in TLJ where she sees multiple copies of herself. I never thought that scene should be interpreted literally as clones, but that would be a crazy twist if it's true.

I wonder if Dark Rey is a vision that Luke had on Ach-To years before she actually showed up? Maybe this helps us understand why Luke was hesitant to train more Jedi?

JJ will polish a turd until it shines. This movie will look breathtaking. He won’t contribute any new or useful ideas.

So so look at the writers. Trevorrow and Conolly are best known for the Jurassic World movies. Relentlessly okay movies that you forget exist a week after seeing. Also, movies where characters inexplicably change personalities between movies.

Terrio is a really mixed bag of impressive and mediocre/bad. So I’m not sure where he lands in my book.

JJ will keep the movie above a minimum bar of quality. He doesn’t abysmally **** anything up. He just doesn’t knock anything out of the park that wasn’t someone else’s idea.

Im expecting a movie less divisive and less memorable than TLJ. One where they just change the characters to fit the narrative they want. Expect 3P0 to suddenly have a spine or for old Leia to get raging mad. Some weird change like that so they can get the story working.

Given how blank/vacant Rey’s face looks I too suspect it’s either a vision or maybe palps possesses her.

Really feel like not including thrawn was/is a missed opportunity. He could’ve been a major antagonist, really liked him in sw rebels. Or he could’ve led an imperial remnant faction that helps the resistance fight the first order. I really liked how rogue 1 showed shades of grey for the rebels, and it would be nice to see shades of grey for the imperials too. Some imperials were vets of the clone wars defending the union/the galaxy. Most imperials were just citizens of the galaxy who signed up for military service to serve and protect their communities, or like Han who needed an opportunity to better their lives. I’d like to see imperial star destroyers and stormtroopers serving the galaxy just as we saw venators and clones serving the republic. It’s palpatine and the Sith who are the real villains. Not your run of the mill service men and women.

I think it is unlikely we will ever see Imperials being good guys in the Disneyverse. It would be too confusing for casuals and merchandising. Things are much easier to sell and categorize to children when they are black and white. The absolute most you can hope for is the Resistance commandeering mothballed Imperial vessels. Even then, why do you think the Starhawk exists? To canonically explain how the good guys can use the immense pile of bad guy stuff lying around without mixing up them up visually.

While this kind of grey appeals to hardcore fans, it is verboten territory in terms of marketing. Same thing for Thrawn. At best he becomes a neutral figure along with the Chiss, but we cannot expect him to be rebuilt as a saviour of the galaxy when he was portrayed in canon as a ruthless authoritarian. I'd love to be wrong on Thrawn though.
