10,000,000 point sector fleet battles are looking pretty darn cool.

Or perhaps lined up to HyperRam.

So with Rey at some point, thatll be fun. Sure do love them shoving a straight relationship in there for no reason.

Perhaps a certain blue boy we all thought lost is leading that ridiculously enormous fleet of Star Destroyers back from the unknown regions to kick some First Order butt...in the name of the old regime.

Afterall Thrawn is all about order and stability and anything Kylo Ren leads will not be that.

I think that laser blasting the mountain is from an Onager class Star Destroyer.

I dunno, it could be, but if I had to guess I'd guess that it's one of the hidden caches of ships and supplies ole papa palpatine hid in the unknown regions for the eventuality of his fall.

Are you talking Rey and Kylo? I don't think that's what's gonna happen here, but I'm pretty sure people have been shipping those two from the start.

I mean, hands down, I'm convinced she's a clone vessel for palps that somehow got loose and darkside Rey is just one that didn't.

At this point, who really knows.

I’m... really not sure how to take the trailer. I don’t really see anything that makes me go “squee.” I’m also a grognard who didn’t want JJ back so I may just not be giving it a fair chance.

Im not saying they should have given it to Rian Johnson again. But I would have been all over the pile of crazy that would have been Episode 9 directed by Tarentino or Tim Miller or George Miller

They've been pretty tight fisted on info for tRotS, so I'm excited to see anything. There's a few things that excite me about this. That fleet of ISD Is for starters.... Definitely very curious about Evil Rey. That has some fun implications, too vague to really tell what it's all about though.

....Nun-chuck Light Saber... they finally did it.... (okay maybe hinged but it is the closest we're going to get, right?)

JJ doesn't do new ideas. So look for “parallels” with previously written stories.

A fleet in a perfect formation like that looks more like a mothball situation than one ready for war. So color me jaded when I see a “Katana fleet” situation ripoff coming.

that is my grognard reaction

Nun-chuck to double sided, why not? :D

Eh, after the Eu wipe I always presumed the new movies would carry some parallels, I mean, the old EU had a TON of content, so to effectively carry on the movie story it was pretty likely some old stuff stuff would make it in some form or another. I'm 110% not surprised by the return of ole papa palps, or really a hidden fleet. I was surprised that Rey and Kylo didn't end up being a rebranded "solo twins" and I'm quite happy about that.

Makes me wonder if “Dark Side” Rey is actually named Reey after Zahn’s Clone Luuke.

Please no. lol The first time I read that in the Thrawn books I was like, "That's a weird typo, how'd the editor miss that?"

Same. I love Zahn’s books, and will defend them to this day, but even I thought that was lame.

To this day I’m not sure if you are supposed to pronounce the extra U. loo-ke?

I'm certain it's silent, it was a visual tool for the writer to prevent the reader from being like, "wait, which Luke?"

Not to mention those are very clearly ISD-I, not even ISD-II.

(I mean, granted, the "real life" reason for that surely is because Disney's CGI team made a highly detailed ISD-I model for 'Rogue One', and the ISD-II has only ever existed as a physical model, so when they called for 'fleet of ISDs', the ISD-I was the only CGI model they had to work with. Still, it'd be nice if they acknowledged that.)

@Darth Sanguis I just saw an interesting theory on Instagram regarding that ISD Fleet.

What if a plot point of the movie is the Resistance actively looking for ships and hunting down the position of this fleet to commandeer? Than the final space battle is all old trilogy vessels vs new trilogy vessels.

Ah!

In fact, what if they go to the Death Star ruins for strategic information and Palpatine’s spirit helps them? Meanwhile Big Papa Palpatine is simply moving the pieces around for his inevitble return.

Palpatine is definitely the right choice as the big bad. The saga really has been all about how he’s manipulated the Skywalkers.

I didn’t notice that. But the explanation is sound. Also, enough ISD1s would still do it.

To paraphrase Black Pants Legion: “It doesn’t matter how fancy their crap is. They’ll still die if you try hard enough.”

See: Katana fleet

Essentially this exact scenario except old Clone Wars vessels being brought into the GCW to tip the odds.

TBH, I don't think anyone at Disney actually knows/cares about the difference.

I doubt JJ Abrams (for example) even knows there is one (canonically, at this point).

I think First Order vessels are designed to support and counter fighters and bombers rather than excel at combat with other capital ships.

For instance in the Last Jedi the squadron of Resurgent Class Star Destroyers didn’t engage the Raddus while the Mandator recharged its battery.

Whereas Imperial 1s, being closer to the tactics Clone Wars, are designed to eviscerate enemy capital ships.

I would have to disagree. Take a look at rogue one. Look at the sheer details they went into to get all the pre-ANH detail right. Vader has some goofier features that were only in ANH and not his pop-culture depictions.

I think there are people that care

Update on the ISDs:

They have red stripes and a large ventral cannon.
