Whipcord launcher

By Mightyhawks, in Army Building

I am trying to understand this card and why it’s thought of as being good.

could some please explain , and when to use it

thanks

It's used to immobilise your opponent.Example Luke is set up to do Son of Skywalker, or Palpatine is looking to do Give in your Anger and you can get the jump on them you can prevent either from getting in range to trigger their alpha strikes thereby neutering their command cards. Jyn Erso's Rebellious and a few others also can get neutered.

Rebellious happens when a unit at range 1-2 activates, so, are you imagining Fett double moves from range 3?

Edit: Seems like a waste.

Why does Boba have to be at range 3. Jyn Erso could get the drop on him by activating last the previous turn and doing 2 move 2 moves get to range 1 end of previous turn. Trigger Rebellious. Boba chooses one of his other cards. Jyn will activate first, use quick thinking to get a dodge and an aim token. Move on other second action, activating Charge land a 4 black (+1 red w/ tenacity) suppressive melee attack on Boba (for a likely 1.5-2 DMG on attack 1 hitting Boba w/ suppression) then attacking again when he activates again bringing him to 3-4 DMG and 2 suppression from both attacks. Now he can either stay in melee with Jyn or withdraw. If he withdraws he gets a third suppression and won't be able to attack this round at and is pretty near death from the double melee attack. If he stays in melee Jyn or another joining unit will kill Boba soon after (his boot spikes are likely to do very little to Jyn even with an aim), so byebye Boba.

Instead he pulls out his whipcord launcher and he ties for priority. If he makes the roll Jyn rolls in for her first attack when Boba activates, doing 2 DMG and one suppression, Boba whipcords her , immobilizing her and putting down double suppression as a free action, now waltzes out of melee range leaving Jyn unable to utilize her second attack. If Jyn gets priority she still lands the double attack but Boba can waltz out of melee immobilizing and suppressing Jyn and following up with his more effective ranged attacks on Jyn likely making Jyn suppressed even on he next turn.

I managed to lockdown the player that won my local RPQ who played with Boba and managed to ruin his rocket launch attack by putting Jyn into melee with him when he activated and managed to land 2 attacks leaving him quite wounded.

Other uses for it. You cannot get close to your bounty because in doing so it take a you very near Luke/ Vader/ Sabine/ Imperial Royal Guard, Wookie Warriors, Chewbacca Tauntauns or any other unit that might engage him in melee , he can move in , attack and kill his boumtur, whipcord the melee unit allowing him to ensure he can escape with the VP

Oh I was thinking you meant if Rebellious and Whipcord launcher were played on the same turn that Jyn wouldn’t get the opportunity to use Rebellious.

Jyn should be run with Duck and Cover imo, since it allows her to tank up quickly.
