Well of course! You can't have a star wars TV show without Filoni

For some reason (the way they filmed it) the super battle droids looked way more menacing and realistic in Mandolorian than they ever did in the Prequels. Some of it is filtering or light or camera-angle and some of it is context (young child and family being hunted by unfeeling battle droid) In CW or the Prequels, there was never any risk or fear of the protagonist getting hurt by any type of droid other than Grievous. You never really cared about any of the characters in the Prequels as they never had emotions really or emotions that made sense or were portrayed accurately. The droids were always played for laughs (the 3 stooges were more efficient in battle) and could never take them seriously.

Agreed, the droids are, conceptually a terrifying enemy, the lame slapstick of the prequels undercuts that immensely.

Darn right! Tactical geniuses.

Sketch of the Yuuzhan Vong by Dave Filoni. The Vong were to be featured in an unmade X-files-esque episode in which the Yuuzhan Vong aboard their scout ship would perform an abduction trying to assess the strength of the Galactic Republic and what the Jedi were.

Thats wild, never realized that they were almost canon

Excellent Episode!

No spoilers, please! I have to watch seasons 2-6 before I can start on 7...

I wonder if they designed the new units having seen this or not.

I'm guessing not, but I'm more interested now in seeing the rules for the clone unit

Some fun Easter eggs

- Clone Force 99 is most likely named after the malformed but heroic Clone 99.

- The poster behind Wrecker when he first takes off his helmet is of a Phase I Trooper and translated from Aurebesh it reads:

Clone History Month - Geonosis

- When the Clones attack the outpost, the B1 Droids mimic word for word dialogue of Stormtroopers on the Death Star in A New Hope ,

“Do you know what’s going on?”

“Maybe it’s another drill ...”

- I love the prolific use of vibro blades, which were first codified by West End Games.

Oh man.... that would have been an excellent nod to Legends without actually going all the way down that rabbit hole. I would have been all for this.

Only one I missed was the Aurebesh, but mostly because I didn’t pause to read and translate.

RIP 99.

Overall, really enjoyable episode. Although I have to go back and rewatch the citadel ones because reasons.

Season 7 Episode 05

Gone with a Trace

Ashoka befriends a pilot but must hide her Jedi while trying to stop a dangerous droid.

Season 7 Episode 06

Deal No Deal

Trace makes a rash decision after learning what they are transporting for the Pyke Syndicate.

As always, droids die like wimps 🙄

At least there are some CIS speeder bikes. Hope they'll show up in Legion!

After watching the Clone Wars Season 7 premiere, FFG should get started on the Galactic Republic Bad Batch special forces expansion pack immediately .

You can keep your ARC Troopers, no thank you. I want these badass SOBs in my Republic Army!

One small detail I liked was the different weapons the Clones used each had their own sound when fired.

I wouldn’t go that far. The ending revelation was telegraphed far too much and CF 99 are very tropey (is that a word?). I’d say it was a solid exposition building block episode.

Personally, I have higher hopes for the final four episodes, with Filoni so committed in exploring Mandalorians across all of his three series. I am betting Bo-Katan Kryse will make a re-appearance for back story reasons.
