Same-era factions game balance: empire vs rebels

Greetings. With the faction proliferation and upcoming scenarios, I was wondering how much balanced or one-sided are the matches between same-era rival factions, in case of this thread, empire vs. rebels, rebels vs. empire.
Feel free to discuss standard, epic or other scenarios and game modes.

I’ll start this one, since they are the factions I play the most (though Im still a green rookie).

I would say empire is a bit ahead than the rebels, but not by much. More ships and archetypes variety plus more access to force users come to my mind as a consistent advantage. Still, I feel that they are fairly balanced.

As far as same-era factions, I've noticed that ship stats get progressively better with each era, meaning Clone Wars games tend to have lots of ships quickly dying.

I would agree with that. Rebels do have some nasty ships against Empire - Wedge reducing your agility hurts the many Imperial ships which rely on it and Luke/R2D2 is frustrating if you take TIE/ln. I play Empire and have been winning more than I lose recently against Rebels but I feel it’s down to player experience in our casual group.

What do you guys this about this "classic" matchup after Jan 2020 points update?

Seems Rebels have catched up a bit with Empire, would you agree?

I’m not sure it’s necessarily about the points changes, but some of the new stuff coming out soon has the potential to swing things in favour of the Rebellion... double-tapping B-Wings, in particular, seem likely to absolutely wreck huge ships!

I have to say the RZ-1 looks awfully appealing now, as do the Z-95 and the T-65. Cheaper options mean we'll see more viable 4-ship+ lists. 3-4 rebels was getting old.

I suspect more potential with Imps, but Rebels more popular on table overall.
