Other Investigators for Dreamlands?

By Mimi61, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I mean Yorick and Calvin are Survivor and they seem like hardened monster killers. I think the real definition of the classes is their motivation.

Survivors are described as "everyday people in the wrong place at the wrong time, simply trying to survive. Ill-prepared and ill-equipped, Survivors are the underdogs, who rise to the occasion when their lives are threatened."

Versus Guardians who "feel compelled to defend humanity, and thus go out of their way to combat the forces of the mythos. They have a strong sense of duty and selflessness that drives them to protect others, and to hunt monsters down."

I don't know. I still think Hank fits the Survivor bucket better. He's just a farm hand who finds monsters on his land. How is he different from Yorick? What is Hank's motivation? Is he going out of his way to hunt monsters because he feels compelled to help people or is he just rising to the occasion (even though he is ill-equipped to fight against the mythos elements)?

Is he going out looking for trouble or did trouble find him? I'd argue trouble found him since he's just trying to find his "pa". I agree he should be pretty resistant to taking horror though. The guy's story kinda presents him as fearless.

Add: Also by that definition Lily is definitely a Guardian.

We will see eventually hopefully. I certainly never imagined Carolyn as a Guardian either.

I agree that Hank feels more like a “jump in it”, reactionary character, than a “packing heat and extra ammo” planner. He feels like a survivor to me, but so many of these guys can make a case for guardian, that I think that is the field they are going to have to sift.

We have only had one female in this release and two males, so I would assume that we have at least one more female coming out to play. But since there were only 2 out of 6 guys last release, I’m guessing the other would be a male. (Not that I am overthinking it at all.) Guardian and Survivor.

That was the conclusion I was drawing when I read the Guardian blub, too.

Well you're definitely the first to do that here!

I think all I do in these threads is over think about future investigators. it might be my favorite thing to do related to this game. I'm gonna be sad when we run out of investigators in the pool. Though at that point this game will be fairly old aged for an LCG.

I don't think they can run out. They made about 3-4 new investigators when Mansions of Madness 2e came out. Daniela was created in the last expansion of Eldritch Horror. Making new interesting investigators is probably the hardest, most time consuming part of the Arkham Files series, but they have not been afraid to do it.

Yeah that's true and I am kinda hoping we get more new investigators sprinkled throughout these releases. Maybe one of the remaining ones in this box will be new. That would be interesting to see what new Dreamland themed investigator they could come up with.

I meant more that I'll be sad when there isn't a legacy character for me to theory craft about. It's kinda hard to theory craft about a completely new character since I have no idea what Matt and Co will come out with in the future.

I am so very hoping for Gloria, Jacqueline, or Patrice. They're some of my faves. I could probably see all 3 as survivor variants.

Ah, but overthinking these things is the whole point!! If the powers that be are wise, they would find some of the most brilliant ideas on these threads...

There are still a lot of investigators out there and with the way FFG releases, it will be a while before we have them all. And who knows, they may employ the old LTOR trick of releasing previous investigators with different stats and deck builds. Although to be honest, I feel like that would be a cop out. Some new ones that were maybe very peripheral characters, would be fun.

People are probably tired of seeing me post the same things over and over again, but....

*cough* Minnie Klein *cough*

😂 She would be so fun! Exactly my point. Small character early that can make a big splash later!

They could start printing replacement cards with alt art investigator cards in the future cycle boxes like they did for the novellas. I doubt we'll see a novella released for every Arkham Files character. When we hit that point (like in 5+ cycles from now) it would give you a reason to circle back and try an older investigator that's been around a while.

I'm suspecting that when everyone is released that we'll see them again with different art and replacement cards. That said, there may be some investigators which didn't work they way they'd intended or were too primitive (early builds) and they'll receive entirely new cards.

Who knows, maybe we'll even see some switch roles.

Fix Rex perhaps?

At this point I´´ve got no idea about the remaining investigators.

I'm gonna throw out Wilson Richards just to be original and I think he fits the deckbuilding themes we've seen so far.

On Lily Chen, I dont think her abilities need to be locked onto "free hands", heck it'd suffice to just do attacks without triggering weapons. This would make holding an Old hunting rifle or Lightning gun alongside her martial arts a pretty great combo.

Lily holding a Lightening Gun is downright terrifying. She could come up with a host of different ways to use that thing!

For the men, I'm really wanting Michael McGlenn with Tommy Muldoon close behind and Norman Withers after that.

McGlenn I'm expecting to be Rogue - I figure if the Ex-Con "Skids" is one, then the current gangster surely will be too. We've already seen Leo & Skids for our Guardian sub-Rogue and Rogue sub-Guardian, so I'll be interested to see what he is. I'm guessing that "This one's for Louie!" will be his weakness and, if Zoey didn't have Smite the Wicked, I'd expect it to have similar properties.

I can't image Tommy not being a Guardian. "Becky" will be his sig card & Rookie Mistake will most likely be his sig weakness. The former is a two-handed gun, the later may deal damage to himself and any investigators at his location.

As far as Norman, I just really want his non-replacement (so placement?) sig cards (Livre d'Eibon & the Harbinger). And alt art.

...

Just looking at the missing investigators, and we're missing 10:13 women:men. Plus Norman & Silas who have been novella'd but not main release which jumps us to 10:15. With that imbalance, I'm now looking at the released investigators to find that we've seen 15:15 (this time removing Norman & Silas). What gives? I thought that before the recent 7 (Agatha, Carson, Preston & Mateo from MoM2, Sefina from the LCG, Calvin & Daniela from Eldritch) that we were even on genders.

So, no idea why I thought that, it was 7:9 out of the gate with AH2's core set! Dunwich & Kingsport were even (4 apiece, apiece), then Innsmouth was the same 7:9. Then the recent 7 were 3:4. So yeah, 25:30. ... We need 5 more chicks!

For some reason, this statement made me laugh... considering your avatar is a penguin. 🤣

Ah, the cursed, penguin-fringed abyss.

FFG really needs to give us a new article; look what happens when we go without new information for an entire week!

Having said that, a slow descent into insanity is very on-brand.
