isle of dread; defeating the very rough encounters

By papalacho, in Runebound

Can anyone give me advice on defeating the very bad guys on the isle. I have thought of the following:

1) Co-op play. All players work together and share items. Thus trying to defeat the bad guys.

2) At the beginng of the game give the players extra gold, and items.

Please help me here. I have defeated the isle of dread once. I love the game, but would like some light at the end of the tunnel.

Playing the Island of Dread takes a lot more time than the base Runebound set.

The Silver Challenges of the Island of Dread can be beaten only if your Character is well equipped, has a lot of Experience Counters and has at least 3-4 Legendary Items. The Book is particularly useful against Assif Shib-ssa, but also the Objects that grant an automatic success in attack are very good. You should be able to gather lots of map pieces during your adventures in Torue Albes.

Here's what I did the one time I beat Assif-Shib-WhatsHisName, you may want to try it yourself:

Roll two straight 20s on your combat rolls in your final showdown with him.

Anything less than 20 and you lose, so it's important to only roll 20s. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Seriously, that's how I beat him the one time I did win. The rest of the time, my heroes had their backsides handed to them.

It's really not that hard to win as there is no doom track to limit the amount of time you spend getting your character more powerful. Theoretically there is no way that someone won't win if you play for long enough. The last boss Assif is quite powerful but - as The Warlock mentioned - there are a number of useful legendary items one can use against him. The thing is though; that killing Assif is the ONLY way to win this expansion (unlike the Frozen Wastes for example where you can find the princess) and so you can expect this game variant to last a good while. I happen to love the nautical theme of the Isle of Dread though.

Hello All,

Thank you for the answers.

I guess from reading the posts that the player must take his/her time building his character.

Since there is no doom track the player has the time. I have come up with a list of things one would need:

1) lengedary items, a strong magic weapon, and magic armor.

2) 2 allies.

3) The character needs to be of good levels too.

Thanks all
