Rise of Skywalker Battlefront
Oh, I thought you said this was from Battlefront 2...
Did some quick searching, these guys will be coming to EA's Battlefront 2 in September. The upcoming updates sound nice actually.
Solo and co-op content is appreciated.
Yeah good stuff all around, looking forward to it.
I'd love to see commandos in legion, though it's a toss up between them and arc troopers.

That is of course the ideal outcome, I just wonder if ffg will release two highly elite, similar function special forces clone units. I could see it happening though if one of those units is the sniper/sabs unit.

They honestly shouldn't have that much over lap, honestly. What most people want ARCs to be better fits Commandos according to the lore. The Commandos would be a cross between snipers and sabs, depending how how they're kitted out, and could honestly be very comparable to Deathtroopers as well, making them very flexible for use. I'd expect they'd be priced accordingly, but that's not a problem.
ARCs don't operate that way in general, and shouldn't be geared towards just being a form of heavy infantry.
I'd indeed say Commandos should be the Sniper/Sabotage unit. As a group of 4, they fit the Special Force spot.
We've seen ARCs mostly working with regular troopers, as some kind of Elite leaders or heavies. I'd say they should come as a special Operative Unit of 2 unnamed minis.
- As Operatives, they would be closer to "Heroes" or Commanders like Rex than they would as Specialists.
- They could work as a either 2-men Operative unit to represent their "ADVANCED RECON" and sub-hero side, or as Personnal/Heavy for Regular Troops which is how we actually saw them mostly acting on TV shows
-
I'd imagine they would come with
:
- A Unit Card
- 3 Operative Command Cards. I guess one with some kind of heavy weapon, another related to other units etc.
- The usual set of Training/Gear cards as part of their Operative unit.
- A Personnal card with the Key word leader to add one of the minis as Personnal to regular Troopers. I'd say coming with more courage/damage/whatever buffs than Specialists.
- A Heavy card to add one of the minis as Heavy to regular Troops. Let's say it comes with the weapon included in one of the Command cards.
Personally I think Commandos as a unit should look more like Pathfinders or Death Troopers, they're pretty well armored, equipped with a variety of weapons by default (and the Katarn armor was shielded in RC, but we might skip that), but I've heard BFII is canonizing the DC-17 as an interchangeable weapon, so that's a straight call for an Armament upgrade - you can do the Anti-Armor module for up close, and the Sniper module for far away. And being a squad of 4 guys, they won't necessarily appear as two-man strike teams, or adding a fifth guy for a new gun, it might make more sense for those to be rando named characters (so unique).

I'd be thinking the ARC would be closer to a single mini as the generic commander in a support pack (with medic, astro, mechanic) rather than as an operative.
The GAR has more than enough of a roster to fill operatives without resorting to a generic option.
Commandos will likely fill the "scout" role we've seen elsewhere.

Couldn't arc troopers work as a detachment? Advanced Recon is their name for a reason. Having a unit that offers coordinates other troopers seems a good fit.. of course that also works for a commander - like Rex is. ARC troopers as a generic commander could work quite well in my opinion, and saves the commandos for the actual special forces.
it has been a while, do we see entire teams of ARC troopers in canon? Or do they stick more to single troopers here and there?

Most ARC troopers were added onto units of regular troopers. Guys like Fives and Rex were meant to be commanders of units or squads. But, they also worked together at time, Echo and Fives went on missions together. Since many of the troopers that become prominent characters in Clone Wars are ARC Troopers, they're often seen together, but usually serve in command roles.
So, Fives, Echo, would fit as a personnel upgrade like Officers for the Clones, or you could use two of them as a Strike Team. That's how I'd like to see them added to the game. A smaller ARC Trooper box with Fives, Echo, Bly, and others where you can add them to a unit of clones as an officer, or, use them as a Strike Team.
Game next to movie still

In Disney canon, we never see a unit of ARCs, at least as far as I know. Even in the EU, ARCs only rarely operated in units, prefering to operating independently. Either way, pairs is about as many of them as we ever see honestly working together.
As for their role, operative works best. They don't really work as an upgrade for a squad, as it would be difficult to nail down what they do that Commander, captain, or specialist upgrades won't. We also don't really see an ARC in that role either, as while they may be assigned to a unit, they're a trouble shooter rather than belonging to Squad 1138. ARCs also shouldn't be commanders, as a Generic Clone commander makes sense in that role. Some may take a command role, but most don't. Alpha or Blitz, for instance, do occasionally, while Fives and Echo never really do. The operative slot seems to best split the difference, with some command cards that help the army, and others that are just more weapons or bombs.
Man this trailer makes me want first order in legion. Those AT-ST are too fine
The big news for crusty old grogs like myself is they're finally going to be doing some more OT era content starting in February. Right now they've only confirmed some stuff for the co-op nonsense and two Supremacy maps(Death Star and Scariff), but hopefully we get some more out of them before Disney forces them back to ST material or the game dies(thankfully it seems to be doing pretty well for them at the moment, seems the message has finally gotten out to the more casual/occasional end of the market that it's no longer a microtransaction-ridden hellgame).
