(Republic) where are the Droids?

By CapitanGuinea, in X-Wing

It's just me or someone else to find very strange that the Galactic Republic do not have any chance to field C3P0 and R2D2? Anakyn literally refused in bg every other astromech...

Check out the Republic Ywing spread. While not confirmed, it looks like we are getting both in that pack.

The Y-Wing has a Threepio crew (?) and seemingly Artoo as a pilot. I hope he’s a mech, too, but they could always be saving him for the Actis.

They can’t come out with all of the good stuff at once, or they don’t have anything interesting to release later ;)

On top of 3P0 crew and what looks to be R2 as a pilot (the limited I2 with a pic of a green Y-Wing) it has a C-series astromech (who according to the fans of the Rebels series is Chopper using his CW era designation) too. I'm really hoping for non-faction locked C-series generics one of these days.

All I can see on the card is ‘-10P’ (which is presumably led by ‘C1’ and becomes ‘C1-10P’ or ‘CHOP’). My question is whether we’ve seen more of this card? I’d guess it’s Republic only, yeah, but what if it isn’t? 🤷‍♂️

I'm betting the upgrade is Republic only. He was part of the attempted liberation of Ryloth (I'm saying attempted since I don't know if they successfully booted the Seps from the planet during the campaign led by Ahsokah) as the Astro on a Republic Y-Wing. My hope is that they make a generic version of the series since I think it is doubtful that the C-series was only used by the Republic military, unlike the Q-series in Legends (R4-Ps with repulsor lift bodies instead of the normal cylindrical body with roller legs).

My guess is that they're saving droid-R2-D2 for the ETA-2/Actis. Personally, I kinda like it. It'll give FFG a bit more of a sense of the faction, a better idea about what Republic needs by the time they release R2.

Ryloth was taken and lost multiple times. Sidious made it a killing fields for Jedi and for the reputation of the Senate on pourpouse resulting in the isolation an weakening of the rilothi t'wileks who were practically enslaved en mass at the end of the war. They were with Mon Cals and Wookie some of the fiercest warrior species and for this the Emperor wanted them neutralized.

I see people counting days untill we see Actis on game but honestly, what could these ships do that one of 3 variants of Delta doesn't already?

The "fragile but and slippery, but cheaper" Delta-7 / Delta-7CLT is already here and hardly anyone used it beside of the purpose of squeezing bin Anakin into their lists. 7's are already masterfully repositionable. The best I could figure out would be 7's sans Lock and configuration but with regular, white Evade.

Flying it since day 1, I don't think that Republic needs another Jedi starfighter, at all, as it already has 3 of them, practically speaking. They most desperately need a decent clone generic platform which competes with T-65, T-70 and Khirahz as a formation beef platform. Torrents are wet-noodle-spring-loaded-shooters without Sinker and ARCs get in each other's way easily on their medium bases.

THAT being said, it's perfectly reasonable for a faction not to be able to field every possible type of list. Honesty, I was hoping for the Seps never to get an actual ace and it being a faction of mass produced, expandable ships. If you desperately crave for certain playstyle, there's a faction for it, for sure, go get them.

Finally, for the main topic - Republic already has some decent droids available, but with the pricetag on the Jedi they are still all outshined by plain old R2, effectively being two Shield Upgrades for the price of 3/4s of one. I'm more interested in seeing some crew + crew carrier options, as the only one they've got, the Senate, is either overpriced or maybe just bad. The "light" side punishes focusing down it's carrier but it only fits to ARC which is easily ignorable / outmanoeuvreable in the early game and the dark side is too situational, restrictive and jedi-centered. I hope to see some folks like Yoda or Yularen taking a seat and supporting the battle.

It’s the flogging actis. It has more scenes that like almost any other fighter. Maybe barring the Naboo

Sure they don’t functionally need another Ace, but they’ll obviously get it. Most people care more about fluff than faction function/balance, in regards to what ships we get.

As for what it does, likely 3/3 something something for the statline, or maybe 2/3 and a cannon/ordnance? Slightly better dial than the Arthersprite, similar or better ship ability, Defender-like prices...

They’ll make it different enough to be interesting, don’t worry.

Actis will probably have a Cannon slot, and probably won't have shields (lore-wise, they didn't). I'd also think it'd be baseline 3 red dice.

I'd be inclined to give it Linked Focus after Boost or Barrel Roll, like Fangs and TIE/v1. Same sort of blue hards on the dial to enable taking the stress.

As to a ship ability, I'd give it something like being able to spend a force to change a blank to an Evade at some range/arc combination. Outside of front arc or beyond Range 2 (like 1e Autothrusters)? Range 1 in an opponent's front arc (like Concordia Faceoff)?

Net result: something with better green dice mods, but less mobile by comparison... Still very mobile in absolute terms!

The actis like the z-95 headhunter is quite important because mark the transition in the design and from an age to anotherm. Both are the sum of all the lessons learned from Clone Wars enstablishing the two different pathways followed by the TIE series ans all other modern starfighters. The Actis is short range heavy firepower at high speed an maneuvrability and no shields. The z95 is resilient all around starfighter with medium performances. Most of the modifications made on D7, were standard from the line in the Actis becoming a test bed and a paradigm in intself for the system array and where commands and monitirs and generally speaking all the avionics was set up. More speed and more firepower as base model it is a good starting point. The black one piloted by Darth Vader until Sienar perfected the X1 is another...

Maybe:

Stat Bar: F: 2 A: 3 H: 3 Force: 1, 2, or 3

Action Bar: Focus, (P) Evade, Boost > (R) Focus, Barrel Roll > (R) Focus

Ability: While you defend, if the attacker is in your front arc, you may spend 1 Force Charge to change 1 result to an Evade.

Dial: As the Adv X1 but with Sloops instead of Tallons and blue 2 Turns.

Slots: Cannon, Astro and Force Talent

Adv X1 dial for reference:

Maneuver tie advanced x1

Just a guess, but I'd wager no ship with an astro slot will get blue turns as long as the R4 exists. It would be a bad design as it would limit the number of possible builds.

Blue 3 turns.

Solves that issue.

You could make the same argument for the FO regarding their interceptor coming out, but there getting that anyway. So sure the actis isn’t needed, but it is wanted.

I think I’m canon it didn’t come with shields so maybe 3/3/6/0 stat line? Or maybe 3/2/6/0. Idk

Eeeeh maybe no shields but I think we'll get 3 greens and "spend one force to change a blank to an evade" before we see that much hull on an Actis.

Hm... Will R2 pilot have an astromech slot, do you think?

The only thing I disagree with is the amount of hull you've given the ship. I compared the write ups for both the V-19 and the Actis using their Star Wars RPG stats. Both ships have the same amount of hull in the RPG so I'm thinking the Actis will have 4-5 hull.

Doubtful since they're riding in the astro slot. They probably have a crew slot instead.

I don't have access to those stats so was basing it off of its successor designs, the TIE series, and factoring in its size (the thing is almost as small as a Sep tri-fighter, smaller than a TIE/Ln in overall volume by a fair bit). 4 hull is possible, 5 would be overkill for what I think it'll be in game.

Hrmmm..

Gonk Droid or Chancellor Palpatine....
