Summer/Winter

By ravenwolf64, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Gurus,

I have some cards, e.g. Winter Festival that have effects "if it is Winter" or "if it is Summer" I have read the rule book through twice and can't find any thing that discusses seasons. How do I know if it is Winter or Summer? Are there specific expansion rules I have not found that discuss this? Thank you in advance.

Peace,

David

You need specific card effects to make it Summer and Winter. Currently, there are only 2: Black Raven (Summer) and White Raven (Winter) from the Song of Summer and Winds of Winter chapter packs respectively.

Thank you for your quick response. This saved me from more time searching the rules :)

So I assume that at beginning of the game is neither Summer or Winter.

And using, for example, Carrion Bird targetting a Raven in play (shuffling it back into its owner's deck), the game returns to a neutral season (neither Summer nor Winter).

There's also the Crown of Winter attachment that can make it winter provided no black raven is around.

Does the attachement Demon's Dance kills a character if it is Summer and I play a new Black raven, discarding the one in already in play?

My guess is it depends on the order the first player chooses to apply the Black raven passive effects. If he chooses to discard the other Black Raven first, the season turns to no season.

And then it turns back to Summer, which could trigger Demon's Dance effect.

It has nothing to do with "First Player" choice. Between timing and the moribund rules, there is no time in which Raven #1 physically leaves play and stops making it Summer before Raven #2 enters play and starts making it Summer. There is never a moment of "no season" during the exchange.

Demon's Dance does NOT kill the character when one Black Raven replaces another. Demon's Dance only kills when the season changes to Summer or Winter. If you start with a Black Raven and replace it with a Black Raven, you start with Summer and end with Summer. The season never actually changed to anything. If you start on July 3rd and end of July 4th, the month didn't actually change, right?

So the play restriction is not met. The character does not die.

I forgot that the first Raven was still moribund thus maintaining Summer the whole time.

Thanks for the clarification.
