Any word on whether the Republic can use the same Wookie unit as Rebels? I understand there's no obvious Imperial unit to hand the CIS for balance, but thematically can't see not being allowed wookies with my clones.
Wookies for Republic
As of right now, no word but it's possible they'll be introduced in the future.
Nothing yet. Patience! The republic isn’t even out yet for general consumers. It’ll have tons of options in no time

More like in 4 months after initial release.
I'm putting hard money that we will eventually see cross army units.
The Wookies usable by Rebels or Clones, Bossk by the CIS or Empire
Later we'll probably see things like the Naboo Royal Guard (Reb/Rep) Trandosian Mercenaries (CIS/Imps) Mandolorians (Reb/CIS) etc. Some may even be released as stand alone sub armies, like many other miniature games do, featuring say: Wookie army with Tarfful (command), Wookie Warriors (core/if in wookie sub faction), and that Mosquito flyer as Heavy/Support (the one from RotS).
But we'll probably see a new box set announced next year for Resistance Vs. First Order before we see specialized sub factions.

Yeah. In no time. 4 months is not even half a school year.

You do realize that at 4 months after release of Legion, each army only had 2 commanders, 2 corps, one support, and one heavy right? Han and commandos dropped close to the 4 month mark sure but that wasn’t for both sides yet.
Sounds like CW is right on track to me.

4 months is a third of a year.
These factions will only have 3 units to play with for a quarter of a year, despite the other two factions having an entire roster. Things are going to get stale quickly -> new player base shrinks -> sales drop. Now they will rebound once consistent stuff is released for the new factions, but FFG has just decided to take the slow release route again.

Actually, the CW is further behind. They will have 1 commander, 1 corp, and 1 support for 4 months. Also, they have to compete with fully fleshed out factions.
FFG had the perfect opportunity to allow these factions to compete early and receive a massive increase in sales if they did a large Holiday release, but they dropped the ball.
I'll still spend a lot of $$ on CW because the CW are my favorite part of SW, but it's just a disappointment, that's all.

And not long in miniatures land. This just isn’t an instant gratification game.

I don’t think they do decide a lot if the release stuff. I think there’s a lot of behind the scenes hassles that decide it for them.

Oh I know all about that. I play Bretonnians. Also I have/had similar list limitations and longer waits for my Hoth subfaction such as it is. I basically play Empire with 3 or 4 units. It doesn’t get boring cause of the OCD cards. One of the things Legion broadly got really right.

Brets have had it the worst. I used to play them back in 7th/8th ed. Then AoS happened and I left Fantasy. I really miss playing them.
It's tough to get used to how FFG does releases vs GW. GW hypes up a release 3-4 weeks prior. They release "rumors" usually a couple months before their release too. Here, FFG releases spoilers several months in advance and then you only get to play with a couple of units. Very different.
Luckily, Clones seem to have very strong infantry + Obi and Rex seem very strong. I'll be playing them until CIS gets more releases.
I can't see why it would even work thematically. There is nowhere in the prequel movies or the Clone Wars anime where wookies had units battling off of their home planet. Later on in the pre-rebellion and rebellion years sure. Even then though at best you have an excuse only for lone operatives or very small commando units. In fact even in Clone Wars era Star Wars the only non-clone/non-human race (currently in canon) that ever sent large contingents off their home world to battle on other planets was the Gungan in the Clone Wars anime. They had some units in the anime that would have some interesting abilities.
The Wookiees had some screen time in the prequels, I’m sure it’s coming. I think it would be better if they had a unique unit/minis though. They definitely looked more kitted up in the movie. Also, Yoda. Gungans I’m sure are coming as well. Not a fan, but I know some people are excited for it so I’ll try to be impartial for their sake. 😛

actually, since FFG is pushing out 4 factions worth of material it is a pretty good amount of content. Since there are 2 SKUs we do not know about yet, we can assume they are ops or corp units for GAR and CIS. I think that they will be fine. also do not forget about R2 and 3po. That is all until January, so I expect more stuff after that as well. pretty solid stuff, I wouldn't complain...

Don't get your hopes up. FFG has spoiled the Jan-Feb releases. How come we haven't seen this other "unit" if it's supposed to be released prior to Jan?
I'm just taking the information they have given us. We will have Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec to play with CW clone war set. It's quite unfortunate, but we will have to deal with it.
It's pretty clear that the release/planning team FFG has for legion is quite incompetent.

Look for the BARC Speeder Unit Expansion (SWL48) and the Droidekas Unit Expansion (SWL50) at your local retailer in the third quarter of 2019. Look for these Upgrade Expansions at your local retailer in the fourth quarter of 2019.Look for the Phase I Clone Troopers Unit Expansion (SWL47) and the B1 Battle Droids Unit Expansion (SWL49) at your local retailer in the third quarter of 2019.
with these alone, there are over 100+ combos of units and unique upgrades. you add in cards like e. stims or force push that we already have and you get like thousands. idk, just my 2 cents, but I think we will be fine until January. Nobody said you had to go competitive with them nor that they would be ready to go right off the bat. I think FFG has handled it just fine. Do you remember the lack of info they gave us on the expansion packs coming out for Empire and rebels? It sucked. I appreciate what they have done this time around and I can logically understand why not everything is coming out right away. they will get up to speed in the new year and will be great
As for the SKUs, they are numbers that have been skipped over...

1 Corp option. 1 Commander option. 1 Support option. Several upgrades are useless / pointless. It doesn't matter how many "upgrades" we have. The B1 trooper / Clone trooper units will play very similarly.
It's not about being competitive. 3 options to build lists means the game will become stale very quickly not to mention it being imbalanced while playing a CW faction. As a republic player, the only meaningful decision I get to make is do I take 2 Barc speeders or 1 Speeder and more Corps?
It's even worst as a CIS player. Grievious, max out 6 B1s and 2 droidkas. Barely any list building decisions.
I cut them slack because the game was just releasing back then. They've been up and operational for a year+ and I haven't noticed any changes. In fact, I know several players that quit legion after the first few months because of their slow release schedule. It will only hurt the growth of the game.
1 hour ago, R3dReVenge said:because of their slow release schedule.
well I am sorry, that is just a joke right? The release schedule has been far from slow. I prefer good content over quick content. would you rather them delay GAR and CIS until they can push out 10 packs at once or will a slow trickle work fine? sounds like complaints to complain imo.

CW teaser in March. Initial release (1 commander, 1 corp, and 1 support) in October and then 4 month delay before any other CW content is released is a long time. I briefly mentioned how new CW players will get bored with the game due to lack of content and list diversity.
10 packs isn't what I'm asking for. I'm asking for list diversity. At least 2 commanders, 2 corps, and 2 other units. Allow players to make meaningful list building choices. Allow them to experiment with different unit combinations.... This shouldn't be hard, but with how disorganized FFG is, I'm not surprised.

past tense. we have had plenty of things over the past year.

CW content?
Can you show me what we've had?
Edited by R3dReVengeMy opinion: take it for what little its worth.
Legion's first year or so was as well handled as they probably could do. Every month save one saw a release of a unit or battlefield expansion. It may have been a frustrating release schedule to build lists around, but it was sustainable (or so it appeared) and kept the meta shifting. Even when strike teams took over, there was always a few weeks of shuffling around each new unit to figure out if it would make a big impact or not. I know people that lost interest during the initial build up as well, but I think FFG did about as good of a job as they possibly could, and a much better job than games like Armada.
Since the one year mark, however, things have gone from OK to really terrible. Besides the very limited selection of units this summer (I didn't buy any for my main army from the Occupier until Shoretroopers, and I'm STILL waiting on Shores) and May being the first month without a release since June of last year, we've had the Dewbackle, and the horrible release schedule that has been announced for the CW factions come up since. When the CW factions were announced, FFG stated that they would pursue an aggressive release schedule with the, and the "80% figure" was tossed around. Since then we've got.... not a lot. Everything added together barely comes over the 50% mark, and most of that won't see the light of day until next year. Assuming we get the core set this month (which is a big assumption), that leaves a 6 month gap to get what the GCW units had within two months. And meanwhile, the GCW units are still getting more releases (Luke and Vader operatives, more heavy weapon options, more terrain pieces, and possibly two new commander/counterpart units.) Even with R2 and 3P0 (which I'm not sure what their point will even be), the CW factions don't have a lot of options, and they won't be getting any more anytime soon. This will create a stale meta and list building experience for CW players, and that's not even factoring in the problems competitive players will face.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I've already put away my Imperials. Everything I don't need to play Republic has gone into a battle foam box and will remain there until needed for loaner games, or until I'm certain FFG has screwed the pooch. Yes, it's very much a self-imposed limitation, but I wanted to play the Republic as soon as I heard of this game, and by golly, I'm taking the opportunity now that I can. That means, between now and AdeptiCon, I've got to make a Republic list work for me. While that's not in and of itself all that difficult, it is somewhat difficult to adapt to various things I've encountered in the current meta, and create a more flexible army. That problem will likely continue to magnify, as GCW players will in turn adapt to facing the CW factions, and be in a much better position to counter the limited options CW factions will have. The slow release of things that should have been out upon release or within a few months thereafter means that even if the Saber tank, Rex, or Phase II clones are the biggest of big deals, there will be limited time to practice with them before AdeptiCon, and as of the current schedule, no major events between their release and Worlds. (I assume that'll change, but that's just how it stands now) Its certainly doable, as the Republic has a solid foundation, but it'll be difficult due to the lack of variety and flexibility.

(Let’s try and stay on subject rather than schedule whinge in every thread)
My thinking is that Wookies are an iconic facet of Star Wars that’s the second most prevalent in the entire film series - (the first being C3PO and R2D2, but they were originally written in as a narrative point of view device so no surprise for those two). They are unique to SW and FFG would be fools not to include them wherever possible to draw upon that cache’. Heck, they already have hinted they are going to release Gungans and they never did much other than get shellacked for 10 minutes, so a Kasshyk force appearance isn’t a stretch. And frankly, releasing a unit for the GCW rather than CW seems backwards to me already. Chewie was the only one of his kind seen in the original trilogy... apart from the Xmas special.
Wookies didn’t appear as a force until Revenge of the Noooooooooo!
Long story short - more Wookies are bound to come along. We’re just too far out atm to even hear rumours what form they’ll take in game. Patience is a virtue.

You should not be so harsh on yourself or FFG...if your opinion is worth so little, why would anyone care?
I have 3 units of Wookie warriors and look forward to a few games against the new factions when they release...have already gotten over the pace and variety of releases for Star Wars: Legion by FFG. I am glad I stopped caring about the current meta or hotness years and years ago.
