The Last 40K RPG?

I'd really love to see books like that. I'd gladly sell my soul, my kidney and my future baby for just such a book about the Machine Cult.

Your soul and future baby, you say? Step right this way... that's right, straight into my office. I have a great part-exchange plan I'm sure you're dying to see!

You think Death Watch is a far as far as FFG should go? Nonsense.

Do I want to play a Primarch? Why yes, yes I do.

I think that you gave many Marine fans a nerdgasm right there, T.S. Luikart. gran_risa.gif

Again, not hard to do a game of Primarchs.

Well then... Horus Heresy RPG? :o Not THAT impossible...

Other than FFG previously stating that they can't cover areas previously covered by GW fluff, and so they can only cover completely new areas (like Calixis, Koronus and Jericho).

So it's unlikely we'll ever see source books for different sectors previously in GW fluff, or different time-eras (like the Horus Heresy).

An official one? As MILLANDSON points out, not likely. Could fans craft it if they wanted? For sure.

I know I plan to; a Heresy-era "here's a scenario, now survive it" one-off game is on my to-do list once Deathwatch comes out.

What would i like to see?

Basically the IH 2.0, except more backgrounds, some new careers, more guns, and such things. You can never have too many guns. MAYBE some new talents, but if they do that they should have them added to the appropriate "old" careers.

Maybe they should set up a fluff book for a whole new sector? complete with unique backgrounds and fluff. And a bunch of story seeds.

Lost and the Damned would be an amazing book, and it wouldn't even have to be it's own core. it could work as a large supplement to Dark Heresy Core.

Deathwatch might really lend itself to the stacatto style that would make a campaign such as this pop (at least in my mind). I'm not sure that I would want to see Primarchs statted out in Dark Heresy terms, though. gran_risa.gif

But hasn't it been stated pretty flatly by the designers DW is not going to be a generic space marine rpg (such as would suit such stuff as one off HH games), but rather a specific game about space marines in the DW?

This suggests to me there will be game mechanics which effectively limit the ability of GMs and players just tweaking things a bit to allow 'any Chapter, any time' type stuff.

Errr... I'm not sure that's even possible, Adam France. About the only way that they could do it would be to send out some form of meme virus that prevents someone from engaging their brains and their creativity. While I'm sure that there are some companies that would like that, one has to wonder whether an RPG company (amongst other things, admittedly) would want to do that. sorpresa.gif

I'm with Kage on this. If they provide the rules for creating DW Marines there's really nothing keeping people from running a game where all the characters are from the same Chapter. There aren't any mechanics that they could come up with that would prevent or even make that difficult.

I'm thinking perhaps an RPG focussed on Eldar & Eldar culture? It'd be great to have a chance to explore cultures outside of the Imperium for once, plus, for the regular 40k fan, it'd make great source material.

I rather got the impression the limiting factor is the way the pc party is made up of different Chapters and the rules being geared to show that. So a team of pcs from the same Chapter would face problems rules wise (ie in how the rules are balanced).

I could be wrong, I didn't write the thing after all, I'm just passing on what was said by FFG in an interview I read online, where they seemed very quick and firm in jumping on the idea the game would be useable as a generic SM rpg.

As you and Ath' point out that might just be wishful control-freakery on FFG's part though.

Well I for one have been dying to use this for a Horus Heresy game that I am going to be running, full of greek tradegy, high heroics, betrayal and camaraderie and maybe even some love.

As above by far the most "interesting time" of the 40K universe is the whole Horus Heresy episode.

In many ways it will be balancing missions versus the corruption of the warp - plus stamping out any religion that exists - even the the secret releigion worshipping the Emperor as a god.

The biggest question in the whole of the Horus Heresy that has never been answered is why? It's clear the emperor suspected something like this was going to happen (forshadowed in the series of books), but why - was it the emperor's entire goal for Apotheosis? The war with Horus a casualty in the master plan.

With so much going on and so many potential traitors, turncoats and double agents it would allow the greatest 40K tale to be retold in the game.

Unfortunately as a downside, most enthusiasts know who the bad guys are (with the possible exception on the Alpha Legion - Good/Bad who knows), but with the politics of the time it can make interesting gaming.

In general the Heresy time and prior is the best - reunification after the Age of Strife allows plenty of missions and adventures to play leading to the Heresy itself.

There seems to be a lot of good? Bad? going on with the Thousand Sons aswell, and yes the master plan is something that we have all been dying to find out what is now isn't it, but it will be cool to run the game. I plan to start if off pre-heresy with the players all on the same crusade, parts of me even have them being Lunar Wolves, but that idea might go out the window.

maybe a fan - scenario forum for us keen beans who want to put some scenario plots together may be good.
