So I've been thinking about getting an SSD, I'm just wondering how fun it is to play with and against. I pretty much never play any sort of competitive games. My play is limited to friends coming over and using my collection, and so our games are usually max sized fleets or interesting or experimental scenarios. The SSD seems pretty good for this, I was just wondering how much fun it is to play with and against, both the prototypes and the executor.
How fun is the SSD?
It is hilariously fun.
Concur with Biggs. Just putting it on the table is the best part.
More fun than a pants leg full of squirrels.

I am not so sure about this.
It might be fun, right now.
But it seems that this SSD is making small ships a bit worthless (not all, but quite a few).
Flotilla, CR90, Raider, Arquitens, Nebulon. All these are toast when they get into the front half SSD range. Worse than they were with an ISD, because of the upgrade combination on the SSD. Maybe dead on long range, but for sure dead on medium and close range.
I don't like the fact, that the small ships are so bad (or better die so easy) against the SSD. It might shift the lists back into large and huge ships. And the small toward lifeboat and support.

So, you mean... "Business as Wave 7 Usual" then?
I flew it for the first time this week, was a blast. I ran a fully kitted out Assault Prototype, Piett, w/ Howl and a few interceptors. Played against a Sloan’s ISD & Quasar generic tie list. It felt totally overpowered the first half of the game, until the opposing ISD survived to get into the rear and didn’t die. Lost 224-94. Had I rolled a couple hits instead of triple accuracy on my last shot at the ISD I would have won 258-224. How competitive it will be in the long run, unsure, but w/ Piett, tokens, and 3 shots a turn it wasn’t boring to fly.
It also just looks flat awesome. (Added my fleet colors and nuln oiled the city structure)

The key is getting into the rear, most of those ships are fast enough that you should be able to get them around the front and into the back half. I played 2 rounds as a test before a tournament, I had 3 Arquitens a Quasar and squads in the list and I had 9 damage on the SSD at the end of 2 rounds and only one of the Arquitens had suffered hull damage. Arquitens should never get into close range.
Usually you should be able to out deploy an SSD list so you should have some idea where it's going. Also use obstacles to limit their options, make turns difficult for them. I usually hate to start going fast but sometimes it's worth it vs an SSD to get yourself around it ASAP. With small ships focus on objectives, maybe take second player so they have to play your objectives, dodge the big Arcs as much as possible. Get the points you can and play keep away.
I love it!

The front arc at medium range is literally the only spot I was bothered about landing in.
Played it twice, lost both 😂 , once against another one and once against a normal rebel fleet, it’s INCREDIBLY fun even when you lose, especially if you are one shotting CR90s like they are ants under your boot
The SSD really looks cool. And it really feels different when playing. It feels big and mighty, stubborn and awkward.
Is it more CR90 killing than a double ISD-list? No. Is it the best ship to win tournaments? No.
Is it fun to play or watch when played? Absolutely!

Every time we have had one on a table at a Store we have had other folks come up and ask if they could take a picture of it. Several say with the SSD and all the new news they might have to try out Armada. It's definitely good for the game.

This!
Every time I played the SSD in the local gaming den, at least one guy asks me to teach him how to play. In the end all my afternoons turned into Armada courses...
I ran 5 games this weekend, 4 with my SSD one against my SSD. I would say the fun of the SSD come from are you first player or not. Every game I was first with the SSD I would often get an overload pulse off on one or two ships and then queue up The Senate laughing as my friend would have to dump tokens to shoot his MC75 and 80h into my sides and rear. Honestly its the only ship I want to run at the moment, its that fun
All in all we determined that you can't go head to head with the SSD so the SSD should always being blockade run, contested outpost and solar carona incase it ends up second player.
I can't speak about standard play, as I doubt I will ever even attempt to make it shine with such a narrow point restriction, but in sector fleet it is both fun to face and an absolute MONSTER to run. I was giggling through most of my game on Friday as ship after ship struggled to chew through all the shield regen I brought and popped like popcorn once at medium range of that front arc. Also, JJ on that thing at any point total is an absolute laugh riot. SSD out there pulling donuts in the parking lot.
I need a little more practice flying mine. I wasn't prepared for how it turns. My 1st game turned right onto an asteroid and sat on it the rest of the game
I've only ran a fully decked out Executor II for a few games but man is it a blast. One-shotting 3 small ships a round will never get old, just be careful if you've got the 2nd turn!
I played mine in a 3-round event this weekend and it was an absolute blast. Feels just like an immense indomitable warmachine that just keeps fighting.
The fun starts with the looks people have when seeing it at your FLGS. From there it's fun like any other ship in the game but without having the meta restrictions, at least while people experiment with it. All 3 ames I've had with it have been great, even the two losses. The cards that come with it are worth a try, Palpatine Officer along with Damage Control Officer should always be on it. Have a Comms Net flotilla feeding it tokens with Piett and it is very versatile.
