Scum expansions?

By EVIL INC, in Star Wars: Armada

Forgive me if i'm repeating anything as this is my first post in this section. I put it here instea of legion because it has a higher post count so I figure its more likely to get answers.

Has anyone thought to have campaigns at stores or gaming groups that would involve all 3 of the star wars miniatures games? i'm thinking that it would be awesome and could attract many new players and offer shops a whole new way to introduce these products. I've seen this approach work very well with other systems that have multiple related games.

However, looking at the 3 star wars miniatures games here, only x wing has the scum faction and anything resembling a line large enough to do this. Legion has a couple of individuals that are just slapped in with the imperials and armada has a couple individuals in a single expansion.

I can see how we can use current models to "make do" in such campaigns but not effectively. Has there been any real thought or effort to expand in that direction in armada or legion?

We just got another 4 “scummy” ace squadrons, bringing the total to 8 for Imps, more for Rebels. As you mentioned, they get tacked onto an existing faction. The fact they’re still taking this path, and have confirmed two more factions are in the works, makes it pretty clear they’re not adding scum at this point. Part of that is scum doesn’t really have many large capital ships of their own, and that number shrinks in new canon. We also don’t see them portrayed as having a navy on the same scale as the Alliance or Empire anymore. With a cross-game campaign, you’d want to either make do or run Imps versus Rebs (which feels more iconic anyway, tbh.) Maybe someone’s tried to flesh out a scum faction; it would probably be in KDY.

I had considered using the bounty hunters away from the imperials and letting them mix and match between the rebel and imperial factions for troops (without named characters.

This would prevent them from using character ability shenanigans between the unit types and some within, but it would give them the wider options to choose from. How do you think that would work out?

Imperial Assault has by far the most support for Scum, and you can get it cheap because it’s in it’s slow death phase.

A campaign style game using all 3 games is definitely tempting. I would go so far as to make it 4 games. Include rebellion in there as the “campaign map.” When a fleet battle happens in Rebellion, have an Armada game. When squadrons fight in Armada, have an x-wing game, and when there is a ground battle in Rebellion, have a Legion game. There are, however, a few issues with this.

1: no scum. Almost by definition, a campaign like this would be the galactic civil war. Maybe come up with a method to “hire” scum ships for the X-Wing games, but ultimately X-Wing remains the only game where scum really make sense.

2: time. This will take A LONG time. We’re talking a full day per “turn.”

3: cost. A lot of us may have a lot of stuff for these games, but you need A LOT. I have spent a pretty stupid amount of money on FFG Star Wars games, (everything from Armada except the SSD, all Rebel, Resistance, and Republic ships in X-Wing, Rebellion) but I only have a small bit of Legion stuff. It’s a huge investment, and while it’s still probably cheaper than 40k, not by much. This brings me to:

4: new players. You mentioned that you think it would bring in new players. I think it would do the opposite. If someone did see this (admittedly cool) insanity going on and wanted in, they are looking at over $300 in core sets (and a board game) alone. You show them the various forces necessary to pull this off, and that’s thousands of dollars. Plus, the different games scratch different itches. I think having a Star Wars night at the FLGS with all three games being played would attract people more easily.

I’m not saying I don’t like the idea, I absolutely love it. I just think it’s a logistical nightmare. If you can pull it off, let us know the secrets 😜

So I've created something like this. It's actually a way to play Rebellion using Imperial Assault and Armada. I thought about using X-Wing to simulate the fighter battles within Armada, but the logistics of it are too confusing for what I was looking at. Legion would work too, but I've been with IA since the beginning and don't enough Legion expansions to make a quality conversion at this time.

I call it Epic Rebellion: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1WpgO6mRhWq2x1nkEQGIfhLBrPbwJpmV8q6fdaXcuJSk (Note there are multiple sheet tabs at the bottom)

Feel free to copy it, tweak it as you like or just make suggestions. I've played a couple of games of Rebellion and used this to varying degrees (rarely for small battles, and only 1 time where we did IA and Armada at the same time). It's easier when it's my wife and we can we can leave the board setup between games.
