Which heroes are you most excited to play?

By Supertoe, in Marvel Champions: The Card Game

1. Iron Man -- Building the suit just sounds so unbelievably awesome. I've always been the sort of player that likes building up a giant rig in Netrunner or a buffed-up hobbit in LoTR.

2. She-Hulk -- The whole threat removal/alter-ego thing is gonna be really sweet for her, very cool. Plus, neat obscure character.

3. Captain Marvel -- Cool character (although the movie was pretty meh), and the whole idea of charging up giant blasts of energy really has me excited.

4. Thor -- Dunno much about him yet, but I think his deck will be neat when it eventually comes.

5. Black Panther -- The whole special action thing is kind of weird, but I do like that he's got some high complexity.

6. Spidey -- Love the character, generic deck though.

7. Ms. Marvel -- I really don't know too much about the more obscure characters, but shapeshifting this early in the game probably won't be very interesting.

8. Captain America -- He's just such a bland character, and I figure he'll probably be a very generic defense hero, even moreso than Spidey.

What are your opinions? Who are you excited to play?

2-handed solo with Black Panther & Captain America. Have Cap tank & shield up while T'Challa builds Wakandan resources before activating his abilities.

I love how instantaneous it is to look at the available heroes and see all the thematic teams.

Captain America because he's the best. A Captain America Leadership deck feels real thematic. Him giving speeches and leading a team of strong allies feels like a win to me. Hawkeye looks like a great card in Leadership for instance. Hopefully Captain America has an Avenger's Assemble card. Would be nice to have a round of Black Panther screaming Wakanda Forever and Cap screaming Avengers Assemble on the same round. That would definitely capture the scene linked above.

Followed by She-Hulk because I love her comic and she has some fun cards including her buddy Hellcat in her deck. I wanna play a She-Hulk Justice deck so she can have all the Lawyers and Investigators out there locking down the enemies plan. Then she can put her briefcase down, jump in and suplex the villain.

I have tried the Spiderman deck and it is alot of fun to play. He is a negation/control deck, which is maybe why you think he looks boring. Those usually don't look like exciting effects until you play them. Not many demo videos showed off the power of Webbed Up because it is so expensive, but when you play Webbed Up it's such a swing in your favor. They really captured Spiderman's flavor in that deck. He predicts and/or avoids danger while swinging around and neutralizing enemies with his webs (while constantly being broke and needing resources to pay for all this stuff). Occasionally he swings through and delivers a big blow to the villain which always feels great. He's not a big combo deck. He's kinda the anti Iron Man in this game since mostly I had nothing in my play area but Aunt May and maybe a Web Shooter. Spiderman is all about his events.

If you have been reading Marvel Comics since 2013, she is hardly obscure

Besides that point, I would think that Ms Marvel’s powers/cards will focus more on her elongation/size altering powers and her healing factor instead of the shapeshifting, so I expect she will be defensive more than anything

Well, they've got Pete and Tony covered, and those are two of my A list, so leseee:

Cap. Absolutely.

Thor, duh.

Wanda would certainly interest me. I love her MCU incarnation.

Mister Doctor. A longtime favorite of mine.

Ghost Rider, also an old favorite.

War Machine or FFG doesn't get my money anymore (also Pepper/Rescue pleeeeaase).

All of the Guardians.

Miek and Korg as a team hero pack.

I mean really, this list could go on and on...

1) Definitely going to play Spider-Man first, as he's my favorite character. Probably going to play him at least once with each aspect.
2) I like She-Hulk's damage potential a lot. She seems like the best for just going out and smashing stuff. Definitely want to play her as Agggression.
3) Iron Man's build-up strategy looks interesting, but his usefulness might depend on player count, since he's a slow starter. I'm leaning towards playing him as Justice, to buy time for him to suit up.
4) Captain Marvel is actually the one I think will benefit most from an increased card pool in the future. It doesn't look like there's too much space right now to focus a deck on a particular resource type, but that will definitely come with more cards. I'll probably leave her as leadership to start out.
5) Black Panther's deck seems like it will be awkward to play, but amazing when it does go off. I'm not sure what I want to do with him. He definitely seems to want a minimum sized deck to get out the combo pieces fast, though.

I'm happy with all the expansion heroes we know are coming. Without knowing anything about their game mechanics, I'm going to say Thor is the one I'm most interested in, then Ms. Marvel, then Cap.

Alone - Spider-Man first. He’s probably the most straightforward to play and looks probably the flexible solo (as he should be).

With my group - probably whichever character they don’t want to play. They’re not as big comics fans as me so I’ll happily let them play a character they like if it means playing a marvel themed game. The only character announced that I’m not very familiar with is Ms Marvel (I gave up buying comics regularly in 2011 when my first child was born) but I’m excited to play her as well.

Spider-man, mostly because i'm a big fan of the character. Loved most of the movies and grew up watching the various cartoons including Spider-man and his Amazing Friends. :)

Between the core heroes I'm most excited about Iron Man for sure. I've loved the suits ever since I watched the cartoons as a child and his playstyle seems like something I'd enjoy (slow buildup for large gains).

After that I'm mainly looking forward to Thor (for the art, powerful attacks and Mjolnir), Dr. Strange (control, tricks) and potentially Wolverine (regeneration, savage attacks).

Spider-Man/Justice was very effective solo. justice seems like the best fit for solo since the threat removal support is really efficient with one player in that aspect. It helps you buy time and ramp. Spiderman’s cards help him smooth out big swingy moments from the scenario deck and he has some ability to swing in for massive damage even outside of taking aggression. Black Cat, Haymaker and that Swinging Web Punch card go a long way in solo. I think it was a good recommendation for a starting deck, which is refreshing. Usually LCG starter decks are kind of horrible. Not since Netrunner’s core set has a starter deck felt that functional to me.

Captain Marvel! Love the character, loved the movie I just can’t get enough. For me she went from unheard of a year ago to cracking my top 10 all time heroes.

Iron Man, Spider man, and Black Panther are my top 3 favourite.

Dr. Strange, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine, Deadpool, and Moon Knight are others I am eager for.

Ah, some of the comments have made me realise the reason for the ordering of heroes and villains. It's complexity.

  • Spider-Man is quite straightforward: just play the most useful cards in your hand as needed.
  • Captain Marvel introduces a build-up card
  • She-Hulk you need to juggle between sides, to beat or thwart as appropriate
  • Iron Man requires time to build up, but then you use what you have on the table
  • Black Panther requires not ust a build-up but then prioritising what order you do things in

On the villain side

  • Rhino is the basic rules
  • Klaw requires planning for random swings due to his abiliy
  • Ultron has the first environment card, and using face-down hero cards to represent drones.

I am really waiting for Agent Carter! Definitely the best character in Marvel universe ;)

i like that she don`t have any ”superpowers”... Well actually she does somewhat, though They Are much more mundane than other heroes. But she has wits and hard knock and good looking hat. How can she not be the best character in the game when she (Hopefully) appear in the game.

All of them. :)

I'm tempted to play Iron Man first but he sounds like he is a bit more complex than other characters. I'll probably sideline him for a bit until I get the rules down.

Spider-Man will be first. Followed by Iron Man, She Hulk and Black Panther. I'll give Captain Marvel a chance last but will admit I'm not looking forward to it. Really dislike the character. Her movie didn't help with the idiocy of how Fury lost his eye and the wasted Skrulls.

Playing Captain America with the Leadership aspect is something that I'm greatly looking forward to. Very curious about Miss Marvel and seeing how they handle her powers.

Overall, I'm looking forward to all but one of the announced characters.

I kinda hope they do "Marvel Team-Up" decks with two related heroes that work fine on their own, but have some cards that work better if they are played together. Heroes for Hire (Power Man / Iron Fist) or Hawkeye (Clint Barton / Kate Bishop) would be good starters, but could also do an alternate Spider-Man deck with Deadpool (so many jokes).

I think even just a pack of team up ability cards would be awesome. Cards that require you to exhaust two heroes to do some big combo move like for example Wolverine and Colossus' "Fast Ball Special", which is the most famous X-Men team up move. Certainly the Iron Man/Captain America move where Steve reflects Tony's beams off his shield would be pretty awesome. Ant Man riding on Hawkeye's arrow is always a feel good moment. Thor and Loki can do "Get Help" :)

Hawkeye, hands down. Have always leaned towards more "mundane" heroes and Hawkeye has been a favorite since the late 80s (though I admit to being ignorant about what has been done with the character since the late 90s). Beyond that, though, it seem like leaning into the trick arrow thing is a pretty fun and natural fit for a card game (exploding arrows for aoe dmg, net arrow for stun, acid arrows to strip away enemy attachments , etc.)

Demo’d at the NOVA Open, She Hulk is my MVP for efficiency of swapping between alter ego and hero; Tony Stark seems like a huge liability early on (having an initial hero hand size of 1 makes it a very very bad idea to swap until most of the suit is built)

I look forward to play she hulk or black panther.
