Take out the mortars then pick apart the snipers and shoretroopers and grab objectives.

Empire will probably still win due to Red dice trump everything and super access to Aim. I honestly think the targeting scopes help you more than smoke genades.

Yeah I agree on scopes, they seem like a pretty good investment on shoretroopers given they are going to have lots of aim tokens throughout the game, get more mileage out of them. The alternative is you could also drop overwatch on the shores, I don't think that's all that helpful on them.
