I’m just a huge fan of this game and I was wondering with the addition of clone wars core set if in the future we will see an option to purchase the commanders separately outside of the core set due to the multiple pose options available? Would love to have a few different options of the general grievous miniature to use. Thanks for all you do FFG!
Commander Units Sold Separately From Core Set Eventually?
Just get two core sets. It is the best possible value out there, and you'll need two in order to get a decent base to hit 800 points. Sell anything you don't want on ebay, and you can still come out ahead.

Or, find a buddy who wants the other army and go in together on it. A friend of mine and I are doing that - we bought two Clone Wars core sets. He’s taking all the droid bits. I’m taking all the Clones. Win-Win we have the best budget option for a new faction you could possibly have. I’ve learned my lessons from the GCW era. This is the way to go. Then slowly add new units as you desire.
Uhhh, did the math last night, even filling up most slots you need two cores + another unit just to hit 800 without being stupid about it
You can easily get 800 out of two boxes with a tiny proxy. Here is a 748 point force made without comms or electrobinocular upgrades yet. While not ideal, it should be easy to get closer to 800 with some of those upgrades. Is it going to win tournaments? No, but for $100 (assuming only getting the CIS half), it's a pretty good deal.

In order to get three squads of droideka, use one of the wheel mode droids as the non leader in each droideka squad. Easy peasy!

Not to mention the fact that as soon as the Core drops, there will be people selling units for $15 from the Core set at every online outlet they can. Same thing happened with the OT core set last time around. Just be patient for a month.

Check on eBay once the game is officially released. Sellers can be found breaking down core sets and you will probably be able to pick up a Grevious or Obi-Wan for $12-15. It's about as much as you would pay if FF releases them individually.
Commanders should be easy for you to come by second hand. Named characters like the ones that come in the core sets, you can only have one of in an army so all the folks buying multiple sets, should have extra of them laying about they would likely sell for cheap. Worst case... they would trade for a single box of a leader that doesnt come in the set which would be just the same in essence for you. Best case, they give it to you for karma down the road.
