Will Tel Trevora replace Zertik Strom as the default Escort for Empire squadron lists? For just 2 more pts. than Zertik, you get a rogue escort with grit that can potentially have up to 10 hull.
New Best Escort for the Empire?
He is a little bit unreliable as escort. And when he is dying, without able to DISCARD a token on the attack, he is just gone. It is a bit too random for me. Zertik is more stable (if you want escort). He has 5 hull and two brace, and he always has escort.
But the Grit and Rogue for these points are insane. I mean, YT2400 is 16 points… Just one more for these defense tokens? Thats worth it.
A lot of Imperial squad builds are points-tight right now so they'd need to find 2 points to make the flip. It's not impossible, of course, but points is points. Zertik is also a "real" escort where Tel is a fairweather escort and under worst circumstances can get shanked by a large-dice-pool attack (Howl+FC Interceptors, Wedge) that can lock down a token he wants to discard to stay alive. He can also get shoved off a cliff by a cheeky Mauler hop or Ten explosion to finish him off (not an attack!).
Tel is also a bit less potent on the attack (both) than Zertik given Zertik has the built-in reroll mechanic if you choose to use it and is inherently better against ships to start with.
That said, Tel is good if you can get maximal use out of his ability to come back from the dead. If you want an escort for early on (like Black Squadron) with some good defense tokens, he's worth considering, but he's not reliable. He's also worth considering as a secondary escort ace alongside Zertik (or Vader, I suppose) or the like.

Black seems like a nice compliment with him...or possibly just a generic TIE advanced?
