[FRENCH PLAYER QUESTIONS] Close/Seal gates and Game Setup with expansions!

By grouik2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello!

Two very basic questions :

- When a card (encounter mostly) tells you you can close a gate can you use 5 clue token to seal it? Or use the Ancient Sign?

- When installing for example the King in Yellow Touring performance. You put the cards for KIY on top for objects and spells then give the players their starting equipment... But then back to 8 in the orginal rules you shuffle the decks again???

Please help me! gran_risa.gif

The only time you can seal a gate is when you make the journey through the gate's Other World.

As for the King in Yellow, what it means is, you give the investigators their fixed possessions first. Then after you shuffle, you add the new cards to each deck and then give the investigators their random possessions.

Sorry wrong answer from my part!! You are correct!! gran_risa.gif

But this is weird... The rules are wrong then... If you look in KIY it says you put the cards on top in 6 and 8 shuffle... no use....

Hmm, it does say that. It kinda defeats the purpose of putting them on top then if they're just gonna get shuffled in after words. When Tibs or Avi gets on, I'm sure one of them will know the answer.

I personally have never played "touring" style, so I had to look at the rules...

Here are the base game rules, with the KiY rules inserted:

6a. Shuffle the base game Investigator cards separately, and place them into their respective decks. Then shuffle the new Spells, Common Items, and Unique Items, into three separate decks, and place them on top of their respective decks (so the new Spells are on the top of the original Spell deck, the new Common Items on the top of the original Common Item deck, and so on).

6b. Shuffle the base game Mythos cards, Gate cards, and Location cards separately, and place them into their respective decks. Then shuffle the new Gate cards, Mythos cards, and Location cards into separate decks and place them on top of their respective decks (so the new Mythos cards are on the top of the original Mythos deck, the new Gate cards are on top of the original Gate deck, and the new Location cards are on top of the original Location decks).

8. SHUFFLE INVESTIGATOR DECKS
The players shuffle the Common Item, Unique Item, Spell, and Skill decks, then return them face down to their places next to the board. Whenever players draw cards, they draw them randomly from the tops of these decks.

9. RECEIVE RANDOM POSSESSIONS
Each investigator sheet may indicate that the investigator receives one or more random possessions. Each player, beginning with the first player and continuing clockwise, draws the indicated number of cards from the appropriate decks, as listed on his investigator sheet in the “Random Possessions” area.

12. SHUFFLE ANCIENT ONE DECKS AND GATE MARKERS The players now shuffle the Gate and Mythos decks, and then return them to their places next to the board. Next, they shuffle the 16 Gate markers and place them face down in a stack next to the board.

Right, this doesn't make sense. The idea of this variant is that you get the "full hit" of KiY cards rather than mixing them into the other decks. Clearly the intention was that the tops of the items, gate, and mythos decks were supposed to be King in Yellow cards exclusively, so you should not shuffle them all together, even after dealing out starting items.
