Resisting a Technique Effect (New Player Question)

By DHKnecht, in Rules Questions

Ok, so I'm stumped by something probably very simple, so simple that I can't find it. I'm a player from 4th edition just getting into the game, and since I'm well versed in 4th edition, I tend to skip around a lot when reading the new rules. My question pertains to Techniques and how several apply Fitness checks, often to resist an effect. For example, on page 180, under Iron Forest Style, the technique says that when an affected character tries to move closer to you, "they must make a TN 4 Fitness check (Air 2, Water 5); if they fail, they cannot advance." What does the "(Air 2, Water 5)" mean? I've looked all over and can't find it, but I'm sure it's somewhere obvious and I'm just missing it. Can someone let me know what this means, and where in the Core Rules it's explained?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I had the same experience! It means the character making the check has a different TN to resist, depending on what stance they're in. I'll look to see if I can find a page number for you.

Edit: Second paragraph of the first sidebar on page 22.

Thank you very much! That's exactly what I was looking for. I figured it was going to be in a side bar or something that I overlooked. It seems something like that should NOT have been in a side bar, but in a regular rule in the main print. Anyway, thanks again!
