Before The Black Throne Difficulty

By CaffeineAddict, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

I got my copy of Before the Black Throne delivered on Friday, so I was eager to conclude my two campaigns i've had running through The Circle Undone.

The first is a two-handed campaign with Diana and Rita, and the second was a Solo campaign with Joe.

Both had been going quite well so far. I played Diana and Rita last night, and Joe today.

I lost both Campaigns.

I got to act 3 in both, but lost to Azathoth in the first, and in the second Joe was driven insane after moving around a lot of the map, then being cornered by three monsters, without a weapon.

I don't normally replay scenarios in a campaign if i didn't like the outcome, but i might just reset both of these and try again.

Is it just me, or is this the hardest final scenario so far?

I completed the scenario without too many problems (Rita and Joe rarely ever got hit, even after spawning the Piper).

I think this scenario can be very swingy though. If you rush through it as fast as you can, then you can explore quite a bit before things get bad. I managed to find the required locations on my first, second, and second attempt each act, which definitely helped keep the doom and enemy numbers down.

If I didn't find the locations so quickly...yeah, it would have been really tricky. Those dancers are pretty hard to get rid of, and survivors eventually run out of ways to cancel doom/revelation effects/treacheries.

My tip? Gather clues early to generate a few cosmos locarions, spread out, then make the most of the effects on the Void locations to get around. I seem to remember that the 'goal' locations also have actions on them that are pretty fundamental to winning the scenario.

Oddly enough, I had the exact opposite experience. I just sat gathering back clues and then just spammed locations. I think when I finally ended the scenario, Azathoth was at 1 doom and there was only one dancer wandering around. I got a bit lucky with some pulls that made things even easier and I also played Diana for her cancellations. But I noticed your first team in particular seems rough with getting clues which is likely the cause of your demise. I can't speak to Solo xp though. I find solo games way too swingy. I had a go with Jenny solo and Ashcan solo in Carcosa and Dunwich respectively but it wasn't really for me.
