Naboo Model Army

I would really like to fly this. What are the reasons it is bad?

It's basically just the fact that everything is initiative 2 and looking to try to alpha strike. As long as one doesn't get PS killed before it gets a shot off, it should be good. Just when you load a bunch of points (even if that is just pro-torps and passive sensors) onto a low initiative ship, it is putting it at risk of dying before getting to use that stuff and thus not getting value out of it.

So with that in mind, not straight up jousting something with higher initiative might be a way to protect them from getting focused down easily. Splitting them might be better than flying them in one group and getting massively arc-dodged as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes I can see how spreading them out a bit could be beneficial.

Hopefully the Full Throttle Evade will help them survive the initial volley.

I'd agree; since you want a speed 3+ 'attack run', they're going to play a lot like 1st edition cruise missile squads.

I've been running this a bunch on fly casual over the past couple of weeks

(Been away from most of my stuff, so not a huge amount of other things to do.)

Have noted a few things:

Survivability is pretty good as long as you can hit r3 on the initial engagement (much easier to do this against ai than a real person). Damage output is decent, but a little prone to variance with only the single mod. Let's just say the opening salvo is never quite as devastating as you hope it'll be, even if all 4 ships live to shoot (fairly reliable in my experience so far).

Also lining up the second shot is a real pita given the limited turn around options available.

Definitely advise a pincer-like approach; at least then half your squad will have an easier time staying on target to fire a 2nd time.

Although I haven't managed to line up a game against a human opponent yet, so getting optimal engagement range for the first shot might be considerably harder than I've experienced. (R2 vs r3 really makes a survivability difference, and going speed 3+ for the opening engagement is mandatory (you get minced without the evade)

Slow roll as long as possible. Jump with a 3 when you are confident you'll be in range, so you have the evade. You're unlikely to lose more than 1 before you can shoot, especially with evades, and then even 3 ProTorps should be able to tear up an important target. Next round disengage and reset to do the same again

Good advice :).

I've also considered giving *two* of them R2s and Plasma Torps. They'd engage first to strip more shields and then can peel off and regen.

Slightly more subtle, but perhaps going half regenning Plasma makes the list both hit harder and last longer?

Extensive testing today has demonstrated that a sick alpha is not enough and good pilots can punish you before you can turn around for a second pass.

I'll be trying this more modest version with the manoeuvrable Aces there to mop things up. It's still lots of Naboo goodness :).

I'm sorry to report that the more N1s I put in a list, the worse it does. Torpedo loadouts hit like a truck but turn like an oil tanker. You can just about get round with Daredevil but it's hard work.

My final iteration of the Naboo Model Army is below, with just one token N1. It made cut at a 20 player tourney last weekend. However it's mostly Jedi and beef :).
