So the "squadron movement tool" can accomodate up to 6 small base ships. Do we know if thats the maximum of ships allowed in a wing?

Don't know for sure but I think it will be 6 small, 4 medium and 2 large. Just speculation so far based on one picture in one article.

I doubt medium or especially large would be allowed, and all the "wings" we've seen spoiled require at least 2 wingmen to start. Less than that and it doesn't really add up.

True. I was referring to what look like other formation tools that have room for 4 or 2 ships. They might be used for something else. We will hopefully find out soon.

I’m pretty sure the templates in the spread are position markers for removing ships for awkward moves and then replacing them in position (like the ones in the core set but for multiple ships) rather wing formation tools.

At the moment all we have seen points to up to 6 in formation and small ship only.

That is a definite possibility. I still hope they find a way to have medium and large ships in formation.
