? I know of no ability in 2.0 that does that. I could be wrong, but I think you got scammed...

"Countdown" (44)

When you defend, after the Neutralize Results, if you are not stressed, you may suffer one damage and gain 1 stress token. If you do, cancel all dice results.

My advance Proton torpedo attack would have killed him after my five hits but Countdown did not have a stress token.

Okay. He shouldn't have been an *** about it then and should have made sure you were aware of what Countdown's ability was so you could have chosen focus him down with multiple ships attacking instead of depending on a haymaker. Thanks for responding.

I'm not angry with my opponent, he played the game according to the rules and is a good friend. My beef is with FFG for creating such outlandish pilot abilities and others of a similar vein.

The variety of abilities is what keeps the game fresh IMO. The problem isn't that they're there, it's that they took you by surprise.

Just make sure you read your opponent's cards at the start of the round so there's no surprises during play. This also helps you determine your strategy. Countdown, for example, must stress himself to use his ability and he can only do it once per round at most. If you focus-fire him, he dies fast because he can only block one of the attacks. Using his ability also makes his next maneuver much more predictable. Technically you did indeed attack the wrong opponent -- you fired at one of the few ships that's well-qualified to avoid a 5-dice attack. But you learned from the experience, and got better as a result. Have hope and know what your opponent is flying, and he'll not pull that trick so easily again.
