Jerserra (Ghosts of Dathomir) vs the Pirate Queen (Mask of the Pirate Queen) - Potential Spoilers

Jerserra – Jerserra’s syndicate vs The Pirate Queen (Noira) – Veiled Society

This may seem like a strange thread. One of the things I like to do as a GM is purchase a story adventure published for a specific system and expand on the material. Usually taking the form of turning the main antagonist group in the adventure and making them campaign long adversaries.

This is very similar to Beniboybling Kaggath series on the SWTOR forums. The theme is to take two opposing characters and put them against each other in a fight to the death. Only, you take all of their forces, resources, armies, personal powers into consideration. Every aspect of them. The goal is to kill the other.

I do not own Ghosts of Dathomir. I do not own Masks of the Pirate Queen. …I’ve only skimmed through them, mainly looking at stats and reading important parts of the adventures. So this takes into consideration what is in Ghosts of Dathomir & Mask of the Pirate Queen and also what is implied in those books that either may have as their disposal.

The Question:

Who would win in an all out Kaggath between Jerserra and the Pirate Queen (Noira). The Veiled Society vs Jereserra’s Powerbase, where the objective is to kill the other. This would be Jerserra late game with access to the Nardith Cluster

  • · In a one on one duel, I’m pretty sure that Jerserra would be able to defeat Noira in a one on one battle. Jerserra would probably be able to kill Noira, Revah, and Ryale Wei all at the same time.

  • · Veiled Society was able to take on the Zann Consortium

  • · Jerserra has the advantage in quality of troops and it would seem the Veiled Society has the advantage in quantity.

  • · The Veiled Society has access to star fighters, corvettes, and other ships. Jerserra has land vehicles? (Correct me if I am wrong, b/c I do no own Ghosts of Dathomir.

  • · Veiled Society has a council of captains, and who knows how many masquerade pirate queens.

  • · Jerserra specializes in assassinations.

Thanks ahead of time for the input.

Not much stands up to starship weaponry, basically they pirate queen lays a trap, jerserra takes the bait, assainates the bait, and gets taken out in a big explosion followed up my massive amounts of turbolasers for good measure.

I hate to agree with you but I do after going through both books a little more yesterday. I still think Jerserra has a punchers chance. If some of her agents such as boss trelon and the night brothers can take out some of the duplicats like Revah, then Jerserra can personally focus on finding the real pirate queen. Then I realized that The Pirate Queen has Sarvips, who would pretty much neutralize any of Jerserrra's other foot forces. Only chance Jerserra has is if she hires a group like the PCs.....Or if she bunkers down in Dathomir and manages to draw the Pirate queen out some how.

The thing with Jerserra is that her syndicate group isn't described in any great detail and that the only time you encounter them is in part 1 and maybe part 2 if you drag your feet a little. It's expressively stated in part 3 that she avoids taking the syndicate anywhere near her home planet and that she obtained the Nightbrothers from the night sisters that just want her to leave with the artefact as quickly as possible. Thus it's safe to assume that she wouldn't have the night brothers avalible under most circumstances; those men were only avalible to her on loan and thus shouldn't be considers hers to wield normally. At the same note we never really get any idea as to how large her syndicate actually is; we only see one team under her command and they are designed to show up in huge numbers to drive the PC's off and keep them on the off foot, though given it's lacking information. Her syndicate can be as small as the men at her disposal or as big as 50 people, we just simply don't know because they are only really there to give her minions to wield, they really aren't an essential part of the story.

That being said, "why would they fight and where?" is an important factor. I doubt Jerserra would try and tackle the Pirate Queen with brute force necessarily as she is accustomed to being hunted, she would only openly act against those whom she perceives as having little chance. She would probably sacrifice all the men at her disposal to conduct an assassination where her personal superiority can come into effect. She might have been trained by an inquisitor but she has always had limited resources to work with, and always having to be weary of drawing the attention of people much too powerful to handle, preferring to wait until the opportunity presented itself to pounce.

That being said; I firmly believe that the Pirate Queen largely has more assets and a broader organisation. It is very well defined how large the Pirates queen's organisation is and people don't usually get to this position without being exceedingly good at dealing with competitors. So I'm inclined to give it to them; if nothing else, if they ever find out that the leader of the rival organisation is a Jedi then they would most probably call it in for some money and get other people involved. Bounty Hunters, the Empire, whatever. They might be operating on the fringes against the Empire, but they are likely to priories that over anything else and thus all the pirate Queen would have to do is engineer a situation where Jerserra gets wind of the pirate queen meeting in a public place; only to be embroiled in a witch hunt and exterminated by the Empire. People like the Pirate Queen don't get to positions of power just by being powerful; they have to be cunning and manipulative with data to persist in an environment with so many other syndicates and the heavy hand of the Empire.

E.g. Jeserra's syndicate is never established in any meaningful detail so we have no idea how large it is. The Pirate Queen however is a large syndicate with well defined force who likely has experience at directly detailing with competators. While Jeserra is personally pretty powerful, if her true nature became known to the pirate queen I imagine the fight would turn into an information war that the latter would almost certainly win.

If the objective is killing each other I'm going to go with Jerserra. The Pirate Queen is the leader of what is essentially a smash & grab operation, yes the Vield Society has some aspects of a cartel and she has access to a lot of ships and personnel but her operation is still a blunt tool more suited for piracy than assassination. She just doesn't have the right tools to take on Jerserra. Her secret identity is helpful but a determined and experienced hunter with a team of agents like Jerserra has isn't going to take very long to either figure out who is who or just find the whole counsel. Jesarra's syndicate would easily find and infiltrate the PQ's fleet because that's what they do. Then it's just a matter of working their way up the ladder of command until they identified the right ship, location etc. and create an opening for her to get in. Remember Jerserra is a trained and powerful Dark Side Force user supported by well trained, experienced, and dedicated agents, once she finds the Pirate Queen it's basically all over.

I’d agree. But the three sarvips the PQ has at her disposal (nemesis level) would cause Jerserra fits melee wise.

Jerserra also does not have reflect. Her training was incomplete. She does have the raw power and talent but it was never fully developed.

Sad, because I’d be rooting for Jerserra. She is a “cooler” character. 😀
