Proficiency dice

By Vipersfang00000, in Game Masters

Getting ready to start playing for first time but a rule clarification...

When building dice pool... The lowest dice gets upgraded into a proficiency dice.... But what if attribute and skill is the same?

I know in the rules it says if one is lower than the other...

Can you answer please and state page number of the ruling...

If the attribute and the skill are the same, then all the dice will be proficiency dice. EotE:p19 does not state this explicitly, but that is the way min() and max() functions work. If your attribute/skill combo is 2,3, min=2 and max=3. If it is 3,3, min=3 and max=3.

grammar

EotE, p.21 "Upgrading More Dice Than Available".

So, if you have Yellow-Yellow because you have a 2 Agility and 2 Ranks of Ranged-Light, and you upgrade that attack, then you add a Green die. Upgrade again ant he recently added Green die becomes Yellow. Upgraded a 3rd time? Add another Green die.

Yeah, some of these rules are so goofily written.

A clearer explanation might've been "Add Ability dice to the check pool equal to the highest number between the two. Then, upgrade Ability dice to Proficiency dice equal to the second number."

It implies that the highest number can be shared and doesn't need a giant paragraph for edge cases. Sam and Jay -- you guys need a copy editor?
