Talisman : The next Expansion

i think Forrest would be better as next big expansion then city, because it closes the themes of crawling the path to the boss, get some reward and jump back somewhere on the mainboard. the city has total different content, and therefore it would be better to finish the old content with forrest first. new aspects from the city could then work in dungeon , highland and forrest in the same way.

otherwiese, if city would come before forrest, the forrest would take elements from the city and would unbalance the corners.

the forrest probably shows a boss with strenght /craft 10. the mapboard was slightly diferent then dungeon and highland in 3rd edition. the path was up and down the board like a serpentine from one end to the other, not three levels.

That's right, the Forest path was different.

It would be nice if we see that again..

It does not matter for me which board we see first.

I want to see the city too..

The Forest boss is a skeleton, so i expect some undead in the forest..

I also like some undead for the mainboard

What do You think about this idea:

- Dungeon had Treasure Cards

- Highland has Relic Cards

- Forest will have Artefact Cards

?

Just kidding. Or not.

In 3rd Edition Treasure Chamber and Wraith Lord's Lair are exactly same. We already know, what happened to Treasure Chamber in 4th RE. If Artefact Cards won't pop up, we will get a space that gives another set of Treasure Cards. Current Treasure Cards has expansion icon, so it is possible that something new will be added to them someday. Current Treasure Chamber is a mix of final space of Dungeon from 2nd Edition (possibility to access CoC) and 3rd Edition (Lord of Darkness character). Forest didn't appeared in 2nd Edition, so it may be a direct copy of Treasure Chamber. As for now I don't see anything else that third final space would give to Characters. We already have teleport to any space in all three Regions (LoD - Inner Region, EK - Outher and Middle Region). Forest then needs to be a full of Objects or something or gives really powerful cards to lure Characters to it. Also, I think I won't be wrong, if I'll state that Forest was the most magical Region in whole 3rd Edition. Magus, Magic Arrows, Scrolls (opposition to Book of Wizardly), Sword of Power, Magic Mushrooms, many enemies &c).

I also has a bad feeling, Velhart in another topic said a word about Arnkell and its teleport abilities. Talon and Windlord Amulet gives exactly same thing. Dreadwing also gives possibility to teleport. I have a bad feeling that Arnkell will be a direct copy of "big bird"....

If so, Relic Cards will be outdated, and they will need something new. For sure not in City, so the fourth corner may not be a City (and yes, I'm aware that this would be not cannonical move from FFG, who are doing 4th RE based on 3rd ED).

And I wonder, if we will see Snow Bridge... :D

No, you are not kidding..

Artifacts sounds good, but let's see what FFG will do as their next move...

New treasure cards are always welcome

You are right gui%C3%B1o.gif

The Forest was more based on craft type enemies. And other magical things..

We need a City, so i am sure that FFG will make one in the future.

Don't worry about it gui%C3%B1o.gif

If i look to the board, i can see some snow bridges..

I really like the city, and definitely hope that's the next big expansion. I agree that more uses for gold would be a good thing.

We really need the City to spend some gold

The Highlands will increase the mass of gold we can earn.

But first we get a small expansion at the end of the year..

I think there will be a City expansion together with a reagion and hope for that as the next region too. But how do you people think it will be done ?

I think:

  1. Entrance from City space
  2. City street where you draw City adventure cards (I think it could be cool with a lots of City events)
  3. Some stores and places on the City region board where you can spend gold and other things.

This is just what I could imagine and what I think could be cool.

cheers

That;s how it is in third edition.

But those boards are smaller than in 4th revised edition

I think that it would be nice if FFG allows us to move left or right on the city board, instead of a linear path( like the dungeon and highlands)

i like to see some small streets where you can go too.

I don't like to see a large city board such as 2th edition. I don;t have room for that on the table.

I would like a linear path City. I have a very bad memory from the City from Magiczny Miecz, where literally You didn't knew how to move on it, and basically You were able to cheat another players:

images.boardgamegeek.com/images/pic691063.jpg

I don't want a ugly board like that. It's ridiculous big..

I hope that FFG make the City board in the same format as the third edition City preocupado.gif

But with more streets and passage ways through the City.

let's hope that more different purchase cards will come in the future.

I kinda prefer the 2E version . Sort of inbetween 3E and what Nemomon just showed (which IS very confusing looking). I think (?) 2E had more spaces than 3E for drawing City cards... but I'm only working from memory and some bad shots of the 3E board on BGG.

Oh... but definitely a corner style board, please. I think overall we might get something of a merge between 2E and 3E.

Well.. Third edition City is very small.

There was not much spaces to move too.

pic18628.jpg

It was a very boring place..

Yes, it is small, but is linear. Hopefully the 4ER city board will be of the same size as the other two boards so far... maybe with a main street running away to both sides of the corner... entrance in the corner... with a slim chance of a couple side streets (a single space?) down which one would find the less than desirable establishments are off the main way... gran_risa.gif

I think the 2nd edition City board seemed more like a city than the 3rd edition one (which was really one long linear street with shops off it). 2nd edition city's rules were confusing and convoluted though: it was actually illegal to have no gold in the city and be of a particular race. Also; if you had a horse and cart, warhorse or whatever (which oddly were objects in 2nd edition Talisman) you had to leave them stabled in the city as you couldn't take them into buildings. A combination of the two would be better, with the tighter and better thought through 4th edition rules.

I'd quite like to see another small box expansion with a few extra characters and maybe more adventure cards that make things happen in specific locations - a little like the location specific events in World of Warcraft the Adventure Game. You could, for example, draw a card that made something occur in the Oasis or Hidden Valley that if you could go and resolve would award you with gold or a specific card (like the treasure cards you get for killing the Lord of Darkness in the dungeon). Maybe a hidden Valley specific encounter could be as dinosaur, since there appears to be some on the board space.

I'd imagine that the City board will be very similar to the Dungeon and Highland boards!!!

I agree

I like it too, to see those adventure cards that something will happen somewhere on the board and get a reward afterwards..

They could add such quests/ or adventure cards to the City expansion maybe. Then the City has also their special cards..

The special cards don't have to be so powerful.

There are so many possibilities for the next (presumably small) expansion.

If it's a new version of 2nd Edition Dragons, I hope the Enemies will have more variety and that there won't be so many Objects; also a decent proportion of non-Dragon-specific cards. 2nd Edition Dragons had a handful of great cards (personal favourite being Storm Giant); however, it was a rather dull set overall and spoiled the game balance (admittedly, that's an odd thing to say in the context of Talisman...). Incidentally, if we do get a dragon-themed set, I wonder if it will include extra Dragons for The Dungeon and The Highland?

Or it could be something totally new.

There are a number of game mechanics which need to be more relevant: eg Alignment, Gold, rarely-visited spaces on the main board. I would also like to see some Character-specific Objects or Followers for some of the weaker Characters. A slight increase in the proportion of difficult Enemies and other more challenging cards for the main Adventure deck would be welcome.

One of my favourite features of Revised 4th Edition is the introduction of two new categories of Craft-based Enemies (ie Cultists and Elementals), thus balancing with the Strength-based Enemies. I very much look forward to seeing a host of new Elementals in the game. (As an aside, I've noticed on a few of the threads here that a few players have overlooked that Cultists and Elementals are not the same as Spirits, and therefore are not affected by the special abilities of, for example, the Cross, Necromancer and Priest).

Anyway, The Highland is very close, so enough speculation for now and I'll be posting my review in a few days.

City is doable as a corner piece, but you have to be careful of what goes on what square. I don’t have the Highland expansion yet (it’s ordered), but, I’ll use the dungeon…

If the dungeon didn’t have “non standard” square sizes, it would be : Row 1 has 8 squares, Row 2 has 10 squares, Row 3 has 12 squares. (It doesn’t but the city could be more regular).

I’d make the city streets like a donut. Row 1 and Row 3 would be all street. Row 2 would have both end squares as streets. All of which are draw cards. Obviously, some “streets” would be special streets, “bad area of town”, “wharfs”, “toll booth”, “street vendor” whatever.

That leaves 8 squares in the center of Row 2 that are shops, or special spots. Draw in doors and arrows, and you can limit, or open up how to get to a shop. For example, square 2 on row 2 could conceivably be entered from the top, bottom, or a side, if they want it to be an “easy to get to square”. Or, if you want to limit a certain square, make it have only one door (with each door having a big clear arrow to show the entry point). And so on.

Of course, if you want to be original, you can make the street wind, instead of an O, but I’m not sure if that would add, or decrease the shop/special squares.

I know, it’s hard to visualize with just words, but a donut shaped City would offer the most choices while saving on space. Unless, of course, they are keeping City last… because they want it to be a full board.

Either way, I eagerly await the City, as I’m looking forward to see what FFG will do with it.

Totally Agree with you regarding the former editions of the City. I eagerly await what FFG will come up with to incorporate the best of these former editions and the new features of 4th edition (revised).

The City was, by far, my favorite of all the expansions. I loved the new direction the City brought to the game, allowing for new forms of gameplay such as laws and upgraded characters (though I felt they could have been handled better, maybe made into less powerful ‘titles’ that bequeathed new abilities to your character) I remember re-reading the rules time and again just because of the awesome flavour the city had to it... though there were some pretty strange and annoying rules in 2nd edition, I recall.

Maybe it's just been my luck, but I find that, especially with Highlands, there is A LOT more gold floating around in the game. Gems and other trinkets contribute heavily to this fact: by nature they force adventurers to travel to the City space time and again- it would be nice to finally be able to enter the city and SPEND the gold, now! lengua.gif

I think that the next expansion should focus on 3 things.

1: Light/dark fate

2: Neutral aligment cards, events objects etc

3: Adding raider cards

Absolute Dark/Light fate, it sounds so interesting and I think it will come to change a lot in the whole gameplay.

Neutral alignment cards would be nice having too, and how hard can it be to produce 4 ekstra alignment cards. I hate when someone with evil or good alignment have the druid staff and change to neutral, then what do you do?... In our group we put a good and evil alignment card together to represent the neutral. Until now I know JC have created some neutral alignment cards and I will probably print these out... No! - I am going to print these out until the official comes out.

I would also like to have some more alternative endings, Warlock Quests cards and New purchase cards (would need some places that sells them)

And what I count on is more adventure and spell cards + at least 4 new characters.

Indeed

it should be easy to produce 4 neutral cards + more alignment event cards.

I am stil waiting for a pandora's box ending card happy.gif

More retro adventure cards and spell cards are always welcome.

The City is the one where a lot of purchase cards should be added.

I do not miss the alignment card so munc anymore. I just found JC's custom made card and it looks realy beatifull. I printed them out, glued them back to back and put them in card sleves - perfect! corazon.gif

You can download here

Yeah oke, but i want official neutral alignment cards.

And we really need more alignment event cards, otherwise it's not so important to visit the mystic anymore.

In third edition, you could become also neutral in the village.. ( if i remember right) i miss that sad.gif
