Android Cyberware/gear?

By gmanjkd, in Shadow of the Beanstalk

Hello, I love the Genesys system and the Android novels/Novelas and the World of Android book but was turned off by the Shadow of the Beanstalks severe lack of cyberware and Gear.

Does anyone know if FFG will release a Android book on gear/cyberware? I don't want to buy star wars books and reskin them or convert them to Android.

Also any chance we will see a adventure book?

Seriously I feel the gear book is a must and really makes the difference for me on weather I would run this game or skip it.

For the love of god FFG please release a gear/cyberware book.

Again LOVE the setting and the mechanics just sadly disappointed in the lack of cyberware in a Cyberpunk game.

I don’t believe we will see any large-scale additions to cyberware or g-mods, outside of one or two included in a mini adventure. FFG’s approach to those in Star Wars RPG resulted in many house rules. Pursuing upgrades via cyberware was more reasonable than pursing that game’s Dedication equivalent. Too much gear also changes the story’s focus on what the player can do to what they can buy or steal.

Additionally, loss of resources is a possible, and maybe even eventual, consequence of playing Shadow of the Beanstalk. One of the included Twists is the player’s home base equivalent erupting in a scorching flash of light. Losing gear was less impactful when a back-up blaster is already installed in the PC’s arm. FYI, if anyone plans on using this twist, be sure to inform the players of this possibility at the start of the campaign. Otherwise it just looks like vengeful GM-ing, despite being setting-appropriate.

Finally, balancing more cyberware and g-mods is a great deal of work. So much that some, including myself, believing the crafting rules in Star Wars did not successfully do so.

As for adventures, the mini ones that come with novellas seem like what they will be doing. Making a balanced adventure may seem easy. However, once the PDF is released for sale, it will become available for just a Buck-an-Ear, if you know what I mean. The effort invested in that becomes far less valuable.

Also, if you are going to reskin Star Wars cyberware, I would suggest making another thread and working with others to balance it. The tech in Star Wars is way above what exists in Android and will need to be scaled back or flat-out eliminated.

Thanks for your reply. I was unaware that mini adventures exist in the Novelas...i have the digital versions through kindle.....did I miss the adventures because I bought digital?

There are a couple of Shadowrun adaptions floating about for Genesys. A couple have a lot of cyberware (and other gear) that have been adapted to Genesys though I not sure how good the adaptions are (my group is getting ready to try one out, so we will see). However, these conversions use the Shadowrun Essence system instead of strain (Its a stat that starts at 6 and decreases in units of 2 to 0.1. If you go below 0, your dead. Severe Crits also reduces Essence). This implementation means that characters will have a lot more cyberware then using straight Android and 1 Strain per cyberware. This can lead to overpowering the PCs if care is not taken. I plan to sunder cyberware and make it something that will frequently need repairs or maintenance. In Shadowrun, it is also harder to heal those with a lot of cyberware which can be a balancing factor too. If you don't like the Essence idea, then just continue with 1 strain/cyberware rule. There is also a Capacity system so each major cybered body part (arm, leg, eye, head, ear, torso) can hold a certain number of items. This may also be able to be modified/reduced to achieve more balance.

Something to think about.

I'm going to be running an Android game within the next month or so and was slightly underwhelmed with the total amount of gear options. So I'm going to be making a custom PDF for my players that just adds new gear options; including but not limited to mechanics for different ammo types, cybernetics, g-mods, gear, and maybe some weapons.

Once I finish this document I'll release it for the public as well.

Are you using any of the gear options from the card game for your pdf? I started work on some supplemental programs based on the card game, and found that it had some rather interesting stuff (and a good deal of cool names).

I've never played the card game, so unfortunately not. I've just recently discovered my love for the Cyberpunk genre and read through the Worlds of Android book. I really like the setting from what I've seen.

Most of my work is going to be just some play testing with friends, and converting stuff from Star Wars. As well as anything I just come up with on my own.
